The locals are keen to keep a little of the areas History going in this beautifully kept Heritage museum - plenty of art to be seen and a few handcrafts to be bought to support the cause.

I was very hopeful visiting the sites of Nieu Bethesda but so many places, including this museum had very limited hours. I went in around lunch time hoping for a bite at the restaurant to to see the museam only to be told it was closed till 15h00.

If you appreciate art and enjoy listening to the stories about the pieces, I do recommend that you stop by the museum. You have the opportunity to not only view the pieces but you’ll be able to talk to an artist who can explain the meaning about each piece. We were thrilled to speak to Nes.

If you're in Nieu Bethesda, please visit the inspiring Bushman Heritage Museum, eat at Bethesda Art Centre, or stay at the Bethesda Tower accommodation (all run by the amazing and friendly artists who proudly showcase their art in all three). I truly enjoyed staying overnight at the Bethesda Tower accommodation (which is unusual and beautiful), and eating at the Bethesda Art Centre (which makes very tasty and wholesome food - I had lamb shank with vegetables, rice and fried potato for dinner), and a full English breakfast in the beautiful courtyard. The Bushman Heritage Museum is the highlight, and educates both on Bushman heritage (and why the word is San is not used), and the cosmology and rich Bushman culture that inspires the artists that run the centre and whose amazing artworks are contained in the Museum. A must for any South African (and international tourist). Artworks and functional art (such as cushions) are also available for purchase in the Art Centre. Please support this inspiring initiative.

We enjoyed a dinner in the Art Gallery restaurant. The setting was beautiful. We ordered the Lamb Curry, Lamb Shank(the winning dish), chicken curry and vegetable mousaka. Very friendly service.

12 years ago we slept in the tower and revised it. What a nice surprise to be welcomed by a young man (forgot name) who showed us around the place and beautifully explained the history of the tapestries. We booked into their Restaurant for the evening and again got excellent service and enjoyed the Lamb Shanks.:-)

Loved the art created by locals...especially the big murals. Definitely a visit worth. A bit expensive for "Jan Allerman", but still beautifully crafted. After you've enjoyed the art, go and have a coffee or milkshake in the courtyard.

It is so sorry that the art created here isn't seen by many people. I loved the big wall hangings made from material showing scenes or stories of the "first people".
