A brief visit to Wirral park and Thurstaton beach. The beach is sand shingle mix and a long thin strip. Lots of families there today as it’s half term/ Platinum Jubilee. But there was a strong wind and no sun so it wasn’t that enjoyable.
Coastal path cut off to the left so go right to the caravan park entrance to head down the stairs to the beach. The cliff is too steep.

Office…into the wilderness. It was raining but the beach is so beautiful as is the walk down from the coffee shop by the car park. A real escape from reality. Loved it.

On Saturday we drove out to Thurstaston with two grandchildren. The weather was very warm and sunny and the carpark was almost full when we arrived.
We headed straight for the steps that lead down and down to the beach. As the children had been stuck in area for months, they were hugely excited, and the trip down was like a mini adventure!
The beach is long and a mix of sand and shingle. It’s a great place for walks, picnics, building sandcastles and finding rock pools. It’s backed by the high cliffs and looks towards the Dee Estuary and Wales.
The walk back up the steep steps was quite a pull! The pathway is wide enough for people to pass, and everyone was very considerate of others during these awful times.
It was good to be out in the fresh air and we’re planning on returning on a windy day and taking kites!

No matter what time of year this place is just perfect. Soft sand, cliff walks, stunning views, picnic area, bbq facilities, great café (covid secure and fantastic ice cream). Don't tell too many people we wouldn't want it to get too busy!

Great place to walk, bird watching, stroll along the beach, great for dogs and children. I would be careful letting a lively runaway dog off the lead a the top of the cliffs, if you don't know the area in case they take a tumble over the top, steep slopes. I've taken some fantastic photographs of sunsets from this point, winter and summer skies. In wet weather the grassland on the top can be very boggy so waterproof footwear would be sensible.

50p/hr to park. Very muddy pathways. Lots of steps down to the beach. Beach was clean with lots of dog walkers.
Not a particularly pleasant beach. Shale, stones, bit of sand, pipes draining onto beach.
There is a visitor centre with toilets and a coffee machine (coin operated).
Nothing to tempt me to return I’m afraid.

I decided to visit the local beach, Thurstaston, it was a sunny day and I hoped to get some nice photos of the beach and the views.
There is a large car park on arrival and an oveflow parking area is available near the cafe.
You will also come across an information centre showing the wildlife you may come across and also directions for different walks, there are also public toilets and wheelchair access.
Outside the information centre there is a wildlife pond with ducks, coots and ducklings.
Inside the information centre there is a bird hide giving you a good view of all the bird life in Thurstaston as well as the different species of birds feeding on the feeders.
The walk I took was from the information centre to the beach, the walk to the beach was via some steps which can be slippery on wet days. On the beach you will notice the slipway which fisherman and people use to get to their fishing boats and yachts.
From the slipway walk towards the white house, which is also known as Sally's House. The beach was quite clean although I did find some litter bins beside the house.
The tide was out when I arrived there, so I had plenty of time to take photos and watch the sea birds.
There are steps you can go up to get to the top of the cliff at Thurstaston, but I decided to walk to Lower Heswall from the beach. Be aware that although the beach may look inviting, it is muddy and has dangerous deep sinking mud areas that would be difficult to get out of.
There are plenty of sea birds here so you may want to use binoculars to get a better view.
On my return walk, I decided to walk along the beach and make my way up the cliff top, there is a farming area but I stayed on the footpath.
The walk and beach is popular with walkers and also dog walkers, joggers and photographers and also families, and I would recommend wearing walking boots or wellingtons and take great care on the muddy parts of this walk.
There is a children's play area where they can play in the sand, but please be aware of the cliff tops and edges as they can be dangerous due to potential mud slides.
After my walk I returned back to the information centre and sat outside to eat my picnic.
There is a cafe near the entrance of the car park which appears popular. The car park is a pay and display and charges 50p for 1 hour £1 for 2 hours.

Are there any public toilets?

There are toilets in the visitor center, but this is shut and I am not sure whether it is due to the virus or it has been closed down. There are also toilets in the cafe at the entrance to the car park, but again it was closed due to the virus, hopefully to be reopened in the near future. On the road leading down to the car parks and cliffs, there is also a farm shop. I think this has a cafe and no doubt toilets, but due to the virus this too will be closed at present. The nearest pub, when they are open is The Cottage Loaf on the main road by the roundabout.

Could you have a BBQ on this beach? It would be with a work team of very passionate environmentalists so done very carefully and without litter but I am just wondering if anyone had?

I haven't but you could. However, up in the park area by the car parking there are purpose built brick bbq 's and seating areas around for families/ groups . Perfect area for a team bbq.

What is the dungeon on the Wirral walk

This is a footpath which starts near the top of Station Road next to Thurstaston Church. It is signposted to Old field Farm. As you walk along it there is a footpath marked on the right. Take this. The footpath winds down through a wooded valley with a stream and a small waterfall. This is known as the Dungeon. It gets its name from the word Dunge or Denge which is old English for land by the Marsh. When you get to the bottom of the path you turn right (Wirral Way) and you are about half a mile from the Visitors Centre at the bottom of Station Road. Hope this helps.
