Nice sunset in that October with boats on the sea telling a special story. You can feel a great relaxing moment and a refresh of your mind.

It is worth spending in the area a few days as there is so much to see and do. The distances are not large, but the roads are winding and there are some places where you can stop and trek, not to mention that it is definitely worthwhile visiting the various viewpoints in the morning as well as in the afternoon. The villages are welcoming and there are few foreign tourists. I would recommend to stay in Xiapu and use it as a base for day trips. Seaweeds, oysters, sea cucumbers are all raised here and exported all over the world. Not only the scenery but also the people are very interesting. Amazing territory.

We stayed four nights in Xiapu and loved every moment of it. So many wonderful places to photograph. They said it was small but by our standards it was a big city! Would love to go back.

Wasn’t sure what to expect. Was drawn to the region as a photographer after seeing some of the shots published in recent years and digging into where they were from. The main city of Xiapu is much larger than a “small village” and full of good food.
As I was drawn by the prospect of photography, I looked into tours and found the number that were available via English searches were tiny. Luckily, read the previous reviews here about Lin and reached out to him. He was half the price per day of the other primary tour company and provided a high quality and diligent level of service. The entire photo establishment in the region is quite heavily institutionalized. There are viewing platforms, entry fees, and a mish mash of authentic / organic sights and more artificial ones. Many also have models who, for a fee will walk in the scene, pilot a boat out for the photos, etc.
In theory you could self drive or take regional buses but knowing the tide, when and where to be for sunset or sunrise, etc and being able to cover the fairly large region where everything sits makes having a driver and guide well worth it.
I reached out to Lin via WeChat and he got back to me within an hour: +86 153 5970 0706 i was solo, but he can also apparently hands groups up to 8 or so folks.

Hızlı tren ile geldiğimiz Xiapu’da deniz ürünleri ile ilgili bir çok sahil şeridi var. Buralarda gel-git sonucu oluşan düzlük ve sığ sularda deniz yosunu , istiridye ve bir sürü deniz canlısı yetiştirilen çiftlikler var. İlk Dongbi köyünü (dongbi cun) ziyaret ettik. Ertesi gün sabah deniz çiftlikleri üzerinden güneşin doğuşunu fotograflamak için Beigi cun ziyaret edildi. Daha sonra Shajiang zhen köyü ziyaret edilip tekne gezisi ile deniz çiftilkleri gezildi. Sonrasında Yan tian köyü gezildi. Evrimini tamamlamamış Atlayan veya sıçrayan ak balık yedik.

With its very curvy shoreline, Xiapu provides abundant photography opportunities. To support tourism the local government has built many observation decks, bridges and buildings. The kelp pole in mudflat is a quite unique scene as well as the fishing "farm" and houses. I was there for sight seeing and photo taking for three days. Had great time. Also impressed by the local seafood and tourist services.

with over 3,000 diffenrent crab and fish dishes this is the place to travel too. drive up the hill side roads for some great views. be aware of pricing, we had a business meeting with 15 dishes and a $1,000 yes, one grand! fish. meutermedia

We took a high speed train from Fuzhou to spend one day in Xiapu County. We hired Lin, the photographer's guide. One tip: do remember to bring your passport to buy your train ticket. We had no idea what to expect in Xiapu... but it was worth taking a day trip to explore.
You can WeChat with Lin to arrange. +86 153 5970 0706. WeChat automatically translates to English so it was easy for us to communicate. Plus there is always Google Translate. Lin is very reliable. He met us at the train station and joined us for a seafood lunch.

Xiapu is intoxicatingly beautiful everywhere you look. Colourful low-lying sand, tiger-stripped beaches, seaweed drying on bamboo poles, fishing villages, vertical nets fluttering in the breeze, laver and oyster farms, vibrant sand beds, tiny drifting boats, flying egrets, rich maple forests, clusters of giant banyan trees, and sunrise and sunsets in an opulent palette of colours.
It is worth getting up at 4am to catch the sunrise. The views are incredible.

The place seems like famous photography place and you can see the "kelong" of Xiapu. I went with a tour, the place seems not very accessible if you do not have the transport. It has nice view for photo. If the weather is good, we can see beautiful sunset and special view. Unfortunately, the day we went it rained.

Is there any local photographer who organizes tours at a reasonable price? Almost all tours are like $2,000

As far as I know there is no local organized photography tour, especially for foreign tourists. You may try the Chinese travel site Ctrip.

I am planning to visit Xaipu next March or April. I would love to enjoy the beauty of the landscape but there is some reviews of disappointment due to weather. Appreciate some advise which is a better month to pick, March or April? Tks!

you need to be very lucky to get what you want in Xiapu lol. For sun rise shooting, I would recommend to go on October. There is just too much cloud in Spring.

Hi Isabel, I am looking to hire a drive in Xiapu and came across your post. Does Lin knows where to take you for good photography spots/views or do you have to instruct him on exactly where to go?

Hi Glider, Lin is an excellent driver. However, most drivers will take you to the popular spots where and when everyone goes. If you're ok with that, fine. But if you're not, you'd better make that clear to Lin that you want to seem something different or go when and where it is not inundated by other tourists. Just saying. Lots of the places Lin took us to initially were packed with hundreds of other camera wielding tourists from Taiwan, Japan, Korea and other areas in China. They didn't seem to mind that everyone was taking the same photograph or that village scenes with locals in traditional garb were completely staged.

Hi Smilesdom. We searched around and found the Dijing International Hotel right in Xiapu city. The rooms were clean and modern. Breakfast was excellent, if you like Asian style breakfasts, which are very comprehensive.
