A sacred experience

Do not miss this if you love architecture and off the beaten path attractions. When we went, we had the place to ourselves. It was quiet and had a sacred feeling to it. You could just imagine what it was like to go to service there in its heyday. It is definitely off the beaten path. You might think you have taken a wrong right turn but keep going. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Okay if you have time to waste

It’s interesting, but not on par with real Irish ruins. Basically an abandoned church with the too removed for safety reasons.

This was a stop worth visiting , this church is in a beautiful place and has a lovely story behind it inside you can still see the pew indents in the walls and parts of the old window frames. You can look up through the tower to see the door to the roof of the bell tower which is protected by the local jackdaws crying it is a gorgeous peaceful place , respect is a must in such a revêtant place.

Peaceful and beautiful

A lovely peaceful place to visit and not too far off the beaten track. Great opportunity for the budding photographer with views of Mt Errigal and the Poison Glen nearby.

Fantastic view

We stopped at the view point and then drive down into.the valley. Great place for photograpgers. I took.many and they are some of The Westminster holiday.

Fabulous Setting

Saw this gem on a programme on RTE TV, called No Place Like Home. So, on our way from Fanad to Donegal Town we made a slight detour to visit this church. The weather was pretty horrendous as we traversed the route from Fanad to the church. But, as we drove down the hill from the main roadway the mist cleared significantly. What a beautiful place. The clearing mist made it all the more atmospheric. There is a beautiful vista the the front of the entrance way. It would be a fabulous place for a wedding ceremony.

In answer to a question asked below, I wouldn't suggest the grounds for a picnic as it is a church ground after all. But, the area around would be a great spot for a picnic. But, remember not to leave any trace after you have left.

Well worth the drive

Driving through beautiful Donegal, Ireland, I had to stop and take some photos of the abandoned church in Dunlewey which sits in the shadow of Mount Errigal Summit. It's not that easy to find but OMG, getting there must be one of the most beautiful drives in all of Ireland
