En flott liten perle, med fin campingplass og restaurant ved brygga med nydelig mat og blide servitører.
Flott hotell, men kom ikke inn da vi ikke var gjester der pga corona. Men verdt en runde rundt bygget og en tur i hagen.

The b&b was an overpriced place where I didn't get breakfast ' They 'forgot' to get up and provide one. So next night ( after the Telemark canal boat trip ) I stayed at the only other option in Dalen, The Dalen Hotel. Grand and full of character.

Kom med veteranbåten Victoria og ble hentet med "veteranbuss". Veldig hyggelig og profesjonell betjening. Flotte omgivelser. Veldig god mat

Ta en liten stopp i Dalen på vei østfra fra det indre Telemark, eller på vei vestfra fra Setesdalen. Flott utsikt fra nedkjøringen, spesielt når du kommer østfra. "Eventyrhotellet" Dalen Hotel fra 1894 bør i aller høyeste grad oppleves. Du har ikke vært i Dalen om du ikke har fått med deg dette.

I'm usually driving through Dalen at least two times each year.
It's always fascinating to drive down and up the hills, they are very steep so remember to use the gear to break when you're driving....
In Dalen you can take the ferry through the Telemark Canal. The Dalen Hotel is also a famous attraction because it's supposed to be haunted (!!). Otherwise Dalen is surrounded by huge steep mountains and beautiful norwegian nature. From Dalen you can also get to other exciting places as Rjukan, Hardangervidda and Setesdal - and further away the western parts of Norway.. Just before Dalen (arriving from Oslo) you'll also find The West Telemark Museum, Eidsborg Stave Church and some historical war landmarks.
A part from this it's not much to do here for tourists, the city centre is small - there are just a couple of gas stations to buy fast food and a couple of restaurants/cafes.
For me it's also always been an attraction to witness the youth called "rånere" in Dalen driving their "pimped" cars back and forth several times, while we've eaten our dinner here. It's been less and less of them the last years though. It has to be said fuel prices in Norway is not the cheapest in the world...

Posto in una posizione veramente splendida ha un piccolo porto da cui si puo' partire per una gita tra laghi e fiumi che si insinuano tra i monti. Non aspettatevi nulla di travolgente ma un posto proprio tipico del Telemark, una grande e lunga valle che in uno sptotamento in auto da Oslo a Bergen vale proprio la pena di attraversare.
