Unbelievable how people in the 21st century can still live happily in harmony with nature. An unforgettable place.

Достаточно интересное место для любителей приключений. Дорога была сложной, но место того стоит. Загляните.

A good place to understand the culture of Sri Lanka’s indigenous people. There’s a museum inside the village which gives a brief understanding of the evolution of these people. You can witness their famous cultural kiri koraha dance as well. You might get a chance to meet veddha chief as well at his home.
However these people are now modernized and you don’t get to experience real veddha life here now. They will try to rip you off by selling various cheap quality items. Specially the bee honey they sell is not real bee honey. Don’t get caught.
It’s good to get some understanding but not a must visit in mahiyanganaya area.

It's a complete disaster. There were authentic experience with the expected real Veddha culture. It was just extortion of tourists' money. just a simple advice. Don't go. Don't encourage cheating, using the name of Veddha Village and Veddha people. Nothing to see, even the museum is very primitive. No need to take photo with the village chief. Who believes it's real Veddha traditional dance?

Worth the visit but must read the descriptions. Don’t pick up a local child for guide this is a scam. Google maps has this wrong location.

Merci

My wife, our grandson Ryan and I visited Dambana Vedda Village on 22nd July 2019.
Indigenous Vedda community have lived in Dambana for many centuries. "Mahawansa", the great chronicle, describe Veddas to be the descendants of the Indian Prince Vijaya (5th century bc) and Kuveni an indigenous woman. When the prince remarried an Indian prince, Kuveni departed, with her boy and girl, to the forests in the central country. Veddas are the descendants of these two children. Sinhalese people are the descendents of Vijaya and his Indian princess.
We were taken to the house of the Vedda chief where he greeted us and engaged in conversation. We walked around the village looking at their houses and their lifestyle, which over the years have intermingled with the local populace. It appears that their identity is slowly being lost with modernisation. They were originally hunter-gatherers and have now shifted to cultivation. Both males and females have large lips that are reddish due to chewing beetle. Their dress when in the village is typical to their culture, tucked up sarong, bare bodied males with an axe across the shoulder. In the not too distant future, Veddas as a race would probably be extinct due to intermingling with the majority Sinhalese.
There is a museum that depicts the history of Veddas. A great collection of sculpture and paintings vividly describe their past. Entrance to the museum costs Rs 100 for locals and Rs 300 for foreigners. There is also an information centre, where the receptionist is a pretty lady, dressed in modern attire, hailing from the community. There is also a modern purification plant for drinking water.

After so many negative reviews and not much positive ones, it wasn't anymore on our to do list.
However when my husband and I were on a safari trip, we were asked iff we were interested to visit a Veddha vilage.
The driver knew the chief and would ask if we could visit.
We agreed with it and I am still happy with that ....
The driver from the jeep entered the (open) house first and then we could enter.
The chief was awaiting us on a seat, and we all, our guide/driver also, greated him the Srilakan way and he did thesame.
He invited us to sit next to him, and our jeep driver translated for us in English.
It was quiet an experience for us, the other Veddha's who entered , didn't talk but were friendly and nobody asked to buy some of their goods they made.
The chief showed us many photo's from him together with important people, even from in the newspaper.
It was a very speciale experience for us, and because of the welcoming feeling we got, we bought a nice handmade basket .
We felt really lucky to be invited with the real Veddha chief, and not those who only want money from the tourists .
