village is a bit boring. although nice to strole there at first it really all looks the same. not a lot to do there no shops or stalls. maybe different in summer or weekends. did not come especially for that so did not mind but would b disappointed if made long trip for that. 10 minutes was enough for us although it being a stone village is an interesting change from the usual Chinese villages.

beautiful village built by stone and now starting go to commercial as no more local living here and they all moving outside so that the village lack of human also feel that quite raw of it.

Last year while living in Beijing, the local tour guide Peter Zhou took my brother and I on a two day tour south away from the tourist traps and deep into the real China. The highlight was Yujia stone village with a unique “Stone Attic House” over 400 years old. On the way we stopped at the mountain top Han Tombs and the ancient city of Dingzhou.
In an old photograph, the entrances of the twin tombs of Han Prince and his wife peer like a pair of turtle eyes looking down from the top of the mountain. Famous for his profligate lifestyle, the prince held lavish banquets in the tombs in the years before he became a permanent resident. A bronze gilded lamp in the shape of a beautiful maiden found in the tombs has become an icon of Chinese art.
Nearby in Dingzhou, a market bustles under the old stone gateways of the city. At sunset locals gather around the pagoda in the town square where gentlemen ‘write with water’ using large brushes on the pavement or sit in groups listening to the radio. or another roasting corn in a pressurized canister which explodes when opened, releasing the popcorn into a long net.
From Dingzhou veer south west into the foothills to find the old village of Yujia, and its centrepiece, the “ Stone Attic House”. In 1580, an official finding himself out of favour with the Emperor fled to these mountains. For the next 25 years he devoted himself to building the Attic House. The roof beams, rafters and lintels carved in stone producing a sculpture of great rustic charm. The gateway though its base leads into the labrynth of village lanes worthy of hours of exploration. Here opera was performed at three open air stages. Stay overnight in old Mother Yu’s farm house, who welcomes Peter with much excitement, and enjoy her home cooking and the cave style whitewashed vaulted bedroom for an authentic experience of country life.
In the morning take a short walk across the river to an ever older and more compact village. A memorial arch is inscribed with the Emperor’s words, praising a ninety year old widow for her loyalty to her husband who had been “eaten by a tiger”. I cannot recommend Peter iampeter518@foxmail.com enough for his easy company, unrushed pace, attention to detail and the pleasure he takes in his job, ensuring every minute is worthwhile, and I will definitely chase him up for another tour later this year.

This village is near the epic Cangyan Shan temple, and is easy to reach from there. It is harder to leave Yujia Village. I hitchhiked back to Shijaizhuang, but no cars passed me (the only road out) for 20 minutes. Luckily the first car that passed stopped and picked me up for free. To get from Cangyan Shan to Yujia by taxi I paid 80RMB.
The village is far better than I thought it was going to be. Some very scenic views and photos. A big change to the Beijing I am used to. I walked around the city solo, then paid for a ticket to the museum. The museum included a village guide and access to buildings and roof tops. Of course the guide was in Chinese so it's up to you if you want more access for nodding at undecipherable Chinese.
If you go to Cangyan Shan, visit here on the way back. You'll be at Yujia less than an hour, so consider that if making a long trip. Also, if you're short of time, Cuandixia village near Beijing trumps Yujia, but Yujia is still lovely.

A 600 yr old village not maintained as you think an attraction to be for tourist. people are living as they did 600 yrs ago. Farm animals roam free, some houses are roofless and dirt floors. there is nothing for miles. If you even had any doubt of the strength of the human spirit, what happiness is or isn't this short visit will change your mind. You will be greeted with a warm smile but please no pictures. These people are living their lives the best they know how. That is not an attraction. But yes it is a stone village, yes it is 600 yrs old. The houses and roads are stone an amazing feat for the time period. A snapshot picture will show that. At first glance you walk up the stone street and wall. Now, 2013 it is life in rural China, Vietnam or any 3rd world country. I was embarrassed to be sightseeing their poverty. I do not feel their hardship is an attraction. Maybe they do not feel that way but coming from a modern western culture I was not expecting this type of heritage site.

这可是个有名的村子，村里的建筑都是石头建成的。好多人都来这个村照婚纱照呢，有一种很古老的感觉，所以婚纱照会给人一种视觉的冲击。因为在山里边，所以，村子里还保存着很古老的东西，让我们大开眼界！

I really enjoyed visiting Yújiācūn. Luckily for me the taxi driver didn't know the way and kept asking people on the way until 3 ladies jumped into the taxi before I knew it! They were from the village and when we arrived one of them, with her daughter showed me all around the village. It was so nice to get such a warm and welcoming tour. The village itself is amazing with all the buildings and roads literally made of stone!

于家石头村是自助去的，和一些网友搭伴拼团。在那里，我们看到的是石桥、石房子、石牌楼，一切都是就地取材，所有的建筑没有红砖水泥，还是应当感叹人民的勤劳与智慧，和大中城市截然不同的景象。。。

村民很淳朴，村庄很有特色——完全由石头构成！也很有历史——明朝大将于谦的后世子孙避世于此！最有特色的是村中的一3层建筑，是由一人之力用石头打造而成！

石头村位于河北省井陉县，一个很小的淳朴的小村落。所有的房屋、墙壁等都离不开石头。那狭小的巷子，那青石板铺成的小路，那厚重的墙壁与房屋，还有那石板火炕......这里的人们世世代代与石头相伴，好似与外界隔绝。村里只能看到老人和小孩，年轻人甚少，因为他们耐不住这里的寂寞与清静，有的考上了大学后在外就业，有的在大城市里打工。
我却偏爱这里的淳朴与清静！
