I recommend visiting this town but please be careful with who you follow. When my friends and I entered this town, an older woman followed us saying she was about to cook dinner and that we could join her at her house if we wanted to. We joined another tour so the woman didn’t follow us anymore, but later we heard from one of the other inhabitants of the town that the woman is a scammer who often does this to tourists. I don’t know what would have happened if we would have come with her, so I’m glad we didn’t.
Other than that, it’s a beautiful town with a lot of history and interesting culture.

民族衣装を着た女性が多くいて、羌族の生活も垣間見ることはできますが、基本的には観光地です。お土産がたくさん売っていて、どこに入るにもお金はかかります。過剰な期待はしない方がいいです。

I loved this unique place. It's a quiet place & well kept. There were some vendors selling some food & sichuan peppers. They're much cheaper here than in Chengdu.
There's no admission charge here. It has a much nicer view from the top.

羌寨还是非常淳朴的，就在国道旁边。如果在羌寨里预定了住宿的话（一定是老羌寨里的住宿哦！），停车费是不用收取的，老羌寨的门票也是不用收取的哦！！羌寨山峰上有个平台，可以俯瞰整个寨子，但是从河边的小路上去，羌寨老人家是要收取一个人5元的路费——因为当时跟老人家聊天时了解到，当初这条上山的捷径是他家贷款修建的，政府说会补贴。但是建成后却没了补贴或者补贴数额不够，为了还贷款，只有向游人收取5元一人的费用。羌寨的整座山都没有什么植被，很少土壤覆盖，因此经常塌方，可以想到要维护的话，也是费劲的事，所以，建议大家走到了那条路上，还是掏钱吧，人家怪不容易的！
今年下雨时去过一次，看见了很多草蛙和蜗牛。走路的时候小心！
羌寨如果实在淡季去的话，感觉很冷清，但是古羌寨不就是应该静静的才好吗？！
羌寨里走路慢点，小心滑倒和碰头。
羌寨里的红苹果很好吃！羌寨大门口卖的杏那是相当甜！而且杏仁敲开可以直接吃，白白的生脆生脆的。
普通的住宿就是100出头，老板自己说比在携程上定要便宜很多，同时主动递上名片。
总之，桃坪羌寨是317国道自驾不可错过的一站！
今年下雨时去过一次，看见了很多草蛙和蜗牛。走路的时候小心！
羌寨如果实在淡季去的话，感觉很冷清，但是古羌寨不就是应该静静的才好吗？！
羌寨里走路慢点，小心滑倒和碰头。

This is a modern reconstruction of a Qiang ethnic minority village that is very run down. Higher up the hill, there is an older part which is more attractive and interesting and also has some good views. You can actually approach this part independently without paying the fee and whichever you do, there are extra charges to see certain house and the underground water system etc. This is only of interest if you are passing. It is certainly not worth a detour or special trip.

I love it because of the old one. In the new village, there are many stores selling the local popular Qiang artifacts: Qiang sculpture, Qiang embroidery and Qiangdi. The old village is located on the Half-slope behind new village. After climbing up the wooden steps, the first site come to your eyes is the primitive and mysterious Qiang dwellings with thousands of years.
The single buildings of these dwellings are made of stones, which is built according to the mountain, ups and downs. The local-style dwelling has two to three layers, the upstars for people and the downstars for storing toors or the circle of cattle and sheep. The tunnels are built inside Qiang village, connected with each other, which makes the dwellings as an organic whole. The village has a good defense function. The tallest building is the Diaolou, vigorous tall and straight, which stands in the centre of the village. Diaolou is the landmark of the village.

成都から九寨溝の途中、汶川で左折して、ちょっと行ったところにあります。建物が独特の景観で、観光客を取り込もうと、そういう街づくりをしています。道の両側には、民芸品や食べ物を売る店で一杯です。でも作られた観光地の匂いが強く、ちょっと期待ハズレかな。素朴な羌（チャン）族の石造りの村を見たかったのですが。

this is a tourist attraction where i thing you need a dual speaking guide. this little village is amazing for all its maze like streets. its now mostly government controlled as they placed most of the old residents in a village nearby and basically took over the towns tourism. so you don't get hoards of Chinese tourists as you have to pay 60rmb to get into it. its a long hike from Chengdu and beware going weekends as the traffic is shocking. also plan trip back at a time its not peak traffic in Chengdu. my guide says you should stay over night. they have a lovely motel at the bottom of the village. anyway back to the village itself. the whole place is steeped in history. the streets were formed as mazes to confuse enemy. they were never taken over by Tibet warriors because of how the town was constructed. it has water flowing through it everywhere and mostly hidden but also used as escape routes. house are unto 7 stories high. whilst it was in the middle of the famous 2008 earthquake this village suffered no damage because of how well it was built. best part of the village is they still have many people living in it and it won't be hard to find some old timers to see and have a conversation with. they made this trip a highlight for me. we hd lunch in restaurant down below and it was great quality. specialised local Sichuan dishes and special ones just from that area. great service too.

Hi I would like to stay a few days and have a translator and talk with the villagers. I will have with me a researcher and historian from the Mizo tribe in NE India. They think that they came from Sichuan over 400 years ago and that the Qiang could be their ancestors.
She would like to see any similarities with the weaving and embroidery and of course ask uestions and take notes. What would you suggest?
Is there accommodation at the village or near by?
