If you are a person of colour please pay attention!!! THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR YOU. Unless you look white, you will not be treated right at this location. The staff were caught more than MULTIPLE TIMES staring, making comments under their breath and giving looks to each other when we would touch a product or if we spent some time in one area of their shop. The staff had went out of their way to passive aggressively and condescendingly let us know that we knew nothing of the beneficial properties of the minerals that they had when we braved through checkout. Despite the disappointing customer service which they had no problem providing for the groups of white families around us with a smile, the mine itself turned out to be not a mine at all. We were told that we were silly to think that adults could actually mine real crystals from their “caves” which is really just a dump site next to their store. Leftover rocks from other locations are dumped there that are too cheap to sell on the shelves for kids to find. Unfortunate that the location, staff, and business owners are stuck in their ways, safe to say that we will never be back. RACISM even if subtle was endure but WILL NEVER BE TOLERATED.

I have been going for 60 years!

Just go. It's genuinely interesting. The gift shop has rocks from all over, including museum quality amethyst geodes. The prices are reasonable and the goods are very giftable.

The mine proper is a dump site of the tailings from mines. You quite literally never know what you will find.
My last trip, I started favoring big rocks for landscaping that most people tend to ignore. It's wonderful for kids too.

It is important to be respectful of the shop and property. They require safety goggles and closed toe shoes. Take your time, move slowly, and rmtake it all in!

Rock Farm is Lots of Fun

Visited the rock farm and had a wonderful time. The shop itself has some fantastic items and the people that work there are quite knowledgeable. The rock farm itself was the main reason we visited. Stayed there for hours and filled up 2 buckets easily with colorful stones, and was able to ask Andy and the others to name anything I wanted to identify. So much fun to muck around, even with the light drizzle and cloudy skies it was a fun day. Could've brought a hammer but wasn't needed, plenty of smaller rocks to choose from. I think we paid about 20$ for two large buckets of cool rocks. Planning to visit again soon.

Awful service and RUDE, HOMOPHOBIC employees. Employees stared and scoffed when we asked questions and helped everyone else in the store except us. Ignored us every time we asked for help. NEVER go here and will never be coming back.

Good way to spend time outdoors

Read a lot of reviews before venturing here with my family with 2 children aged 7 & 9.
Was a nice sunny day.
Mask needed to go inside the gift shop where you are offered a pail. No charge for entering, only pay a couple of bucks for rocks by the pound. Bring your own hammer and safety glasses strongly recomended.
Was a fun time, will probably make the drive to thunder bay to try and find gems and minerals.

Read before you plan a trip

Firstly the name is somewhat misleading. There's no mine at all at this place.
It's a small place where regular rocks and stones have been dumped. The management scatters some stones around in the morning to create excitement for the kids. If you live in the neighborhood' and can be early birds then you may be able to hunt few interesting rocks.
After reading the reviews we planned this trip and travelled for 4 hours to reach this place. The kids were dismayed after spending an hour and finding nothing significant .
I am writing this review so that others don't get the same disappointment as we got especially after reading the reviews.

Amazing place to visit!

Given the pandemic it has been a long while since I have done something I wanted to post on Trip Advisor. Today however, we found this gem (pun intended). My daughter has a strong passion for crystals. The store is incredible and sells beautiful crystals from around the world. I highly encourage everyone to get a bucket and go out to the rocks and explore. It doesn’t cost anything except if you want to keep rocks. You pay a couple of dollars per pound. We found some really beautiful rocks to add to our collection.

Wonderful day, worth the drive.

My family and I drove up to Bancroft for the day. We visited the mine after seeing other reviews. We were not disappointed.
The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The mining area was lovely and about the right size for the number of people that were there, about 20 (during social distancing).
Our kids had massive amounts of fun smashing rocks and scavenging to find some lovely little gems.
The shop is well stocked for the gems you couldn’t find on the ground, and all very reasonably priced as well. Nice to go to a place where you don’t get ripped off in the gift shop.
We spent about 2 1/2 hours in the mine area and loved it.
My kids haven’t stopped talking about it with their friends and neighbours, and have made a lot of people jealous with their new crystals and rocks.
We are complete beginners at the ‘rock hounding’.
We had a great time, even with a 3 hour drive to get to Bancroft.
Would highly recommend this place to anyone with kids.

Could spend hours here!

Grab a bucket in the shop, sign the waiver, and head over to the rock pile! The kids (and dad) could have spent hours combing through the rocks finding different samples, different colours, and various sizes to choose the best ones to take home. It was a lot of fun hunting for special specimens. In the Fall there is usually a Thanksgiving week sale so we took home a lot of rocks for a great price!

This shop "rocks"!

Great place to shop for rocks, minerals, fossils & crystals in all price ranges. I liked that everything was labelled with country of origin. There's jewellery & key chains etc.There's also some "fun" things discreetly hidden in the drawers too (if a penis shaped quartz crystal is your type of thing ha ha) Shop is also dog friendly. We didn't visit the "rock farm" part outside so can't comment on that.
