Very nice visit made even better because of the guides in each room who were happy to expand information to make the visit interesting.
Very poor reception almost made us go away. My wife is disabled and I have difficulty walking. There were very few disabled parking spaces and none available. A request at visitor reception was met with very little sympathy or help. Luckily we found a space near the disabled parking so were able to complete the visit, but the complete lack of a visitor buggy made it quite and effort to get to the house from the car park.

The outer walls of the house are rather drab and the window frames are in need of repair.
The tunnel from the cafe to the house is interesting. One section is blocked off for the resident bats.

Having visited at the weekend we returned on a Thursday (we live locally) to join the Garden tour talk. The talk by Peter Bridges was very informative, lasting about 1 hour, helpfully ensuring any visitors wanting to visit house would be outside the front door at 2.30pm. The Front door shuts at 3pm. The Tea Room shuts at 4pm.

A lovely day out. The house was really interesting with the original fixtures and fittings in place. Gardens were well kept and beautiful. Food reasonably priced and plenty of choice.

Having been to quite a few stately homes over the years ,this was our first visit to Uppark, such a lovely house and grounds, the staff in the rooms were so informative about the house, if fact they were the best we have come across, they answered all the questions we asked and it came across how much they loved it there , We only had a coffee from the cafe as had brought a picnic, the cafe was very pleasant with friendly staff , Uppark a lovely place to visit

We spotted, by chance, that we would be passing Uppark House on our journey so stopped off to see it. We were VERY glad that we did!
It's not overly large, but a delight to walk around. If you didn't know about the 1989 fire, you would be hard pressed to spot the small tell tale signs as you go from room to room. It was superbly restored by clearly very skilled crafts people.
All the staff were very friendly, cheerful and happy to answer any question you had. They added a lot to our enjoyment of our visit.
I loved all the 'below stairs' rooms and displays.
We had a delicious slice of cake and good cup of coffee in the cafe... very good value too.
From our experience we'd highly recommend visiting Uppark.

The house is larger than we expected with the ground floor open to the public. Apparently the first floor is the leased home of the Fetherstonhaughs, the original owners pre-National Trust.
The rooms tell the story of the family and are in very good condition. As others have commented there aren't enough information boards but on the other hand the volunteers in each room were very knowledgeable and happy to share that knowledge.
It is truly remarkable that the ground floor contents survived the devastating 1989 fire, and the restoration of the construction detail, panelling and decoraton, is brilliant. There is a good summary of that fire on Wikipedia.
We were fascinated by the "below stairs" area. Kitchens, servants rooms, beer cellar and more, all complete with the day-to-day artefacts as if the rooms were still in daily use. The underground tunnel from the kitchen area to the main house dining room must be unique! Toilets in the tunnel, also at the main entry kiosk - those were clean and wholesome.
The disappointment was the so-called scented garden. Yes, there was lavender, sweet peas and roses but the whole garden needs a complete makeover as it is scruffy and almost no scent. It is a small area with great potential.
The cafe served the usual selection of cakes and 'NT sandwiches', drinks, etc. Hot options were jacket potatoes with various fillings and soup. The sandwiches and soup were both good. The important Food Standards Hygiene Rating is a 5, the top mark - excellent!
So well worth a visit. Final point, when leaving make sure to obey the single small "Turn Left" sign as the exit is just after a fast bend. There is a large turnng area on the right a mile or so down the road.

Very pleasant place to visit, with some of the best house stewards I've encountered - friendly and knowledgeable. The house is interesting, the garden is small but nice and the short walk around the meadow is good in fine weather when the butterflies are flying. The views over the Downs are stunning.
The second hand bookshop is small and we were slightly annoyed about the catering - we took sandwiches because the NT website implies that they don't do lunches. In fact they do. We did have coffee and cake and were happy with it.

A beautifully situated property on top of the South Downs. The house and gardens are well worth the visit but the highlight for us was the Meadow Walk with so many wild flowers and butterflies in residence.
On the negative side the Cafe was not up to the usual National Trust standards due to a lack of choice and stock. Additionally there is no National Trust shop at this property which was also disappointing.

We went yesterday with our own picnic, so yes! They have picnic tables in 2 areas...one near to the car park and one near the lawn near the amazing view. We sat on a rug on the lawn and we saw others sitting in their own chairs. Enjoy!

I believe Uppark is now open 363 days a year and does open on Saturdays. Can anyone confirm this?

I can confirm they are open on Saturday's but there are limited facilities open on some days "Mondays & Tuesdays: Only the servants' quarters in the basement of the house are open. The ground floor 'state' apartments are closed on those days. " (from national trust official website) I always consult their Web site before planning a trip because although the handbook is very informative, it is only accurate when it was first printed. For example some of the properties shown on the maps are no longer operational by the Trust. Check to avoid disappointment.
