A small, friendly non-profit run for the benefit of locals, especially First Nations artists. The museum is small and a bit disorganized, but still interesting. There are some excellent and fairly priced wood sculptures in the gift shop - we purchased one. Friendly staff. Recommended.

Very small museum , but airy ,comfortable atmosphere , great eye opening for the history and heritage to learn which the early settlers , aboriginal artifacts , grift shop have some very unique Native art and hand crafted grift , lady at the front very friendly , admission is by donation .

Great collection of local history in a small space. Love the gift shop, had some great First Nations art of various types.

It’s a small space but the displays are crammed with artifacts representing unique historical moments like the first settlers and local industry. Admission is by donation and during these Covid times, only 3 people max or one family inside. Hand sanitizer and gloves at the entrance. We found the gift shop especially good — I purchased an Indigenous-designed blanket at Victoria’s Royal BC Museum and the same item here was 25% less in cost! The museum may be closed at lunchtime so keep that in mind. If you are very much a museum person who likes to read, I’d give it an hour. Very old-school as there are no interactive displays that I could see, but this could be due to Covid.

Thank you for visiting. We have a small but mighty team that staffs the museum and gift shop so there is a one hour closure, from noon to 1 PM, over the lunch hour on days we are open (Tues to Sat). Our team does an amazing job sourcing items for the gift shop and carries work by local Indigenous artists when available. So glad you enjoyed!

This was a very interesting and educational visit. The gift shop was really nice and very reasonably priced. It was a great place to stop.

This is a small museum but worth a visit if in Port Hardy. The shop is excellent and nice to browse in for locally made bits and bobs.

We visited this small museum while going through Port Hardy. There are some nice displays of historical items of interest, educational info, etc and it is free, donations accepted. There are some nice local craft type items for sale in the gift shop as well as the regular tourist type items. It is certainly worth a few minutes of your time if you are in Port Hardy.

I've seen a lot of museums in BC towns bigger than this that didn't have the interesting exhibits or motivated staff that I found here. Enjoyed the pre-historic stuff, the Utah mine, and especially the special presentation on Indigenous beading design.

Knowledgeable staff who answered questions about the history of the Utah Mine. It was obvious both members working there are passionat about local history which is great for visitors. A short time is all that is needed for this visit and you may be surprised at the number of available souvenir gift items.
