I'm a few months late reviewing this, as we traveled in November 2017. We had initially planned to rent a car and do the trip to Piha ourselves, but after some interesting/difficult mountain roads in our previous stop in Tasmania we decided to book a tour instead! We booked the day before online and received a Whatsapp message from Matias later that day to confirm pickup the next morning.
Our guide, Ramon, arrived on time and we picked up one other couple. It was around a 40 minute drive from Auckland. He drove us through the Waitkere Ranges to Karekare falls. Then we stopped at a lookoff over Piha beach. He drove us through Piha to show us where he would pick us up at the end of the day, along with some places to eat, and finally dropped us off at the trail to Kitekite falls. He also pointed out the way to Tasman Lookout, which we did and was a great view!
We then had several hours to explore the area. This was a great way to get out and see Piha beach at your own pace, at a great price (50 NZD I believe).

CAUTION! I booked and paid for the trip but the tours are not being run anymore. The owner is very unresponsive and I still don’t have my money back!

I would definitely recommend this tour: flexible, small groups, secret beautiful places which not many tour operators know about and it's available for solo travellers.

As a lone traveler in Auckland, I was looking for a tour to Piha to explore the waterfalls and beach. Oh Yeah tours came-up on my search and it did not disappoint! I was picked-up at my Airbnb just outside of downtown Auckland and was with just one other person on the tour. We hiked to two beautiful waterfalls and then had a few hours to hike around the beach on our own. This was the perfect amount of time to hike over to two different lookout points, walk along the beach, and grab lunch. I appreciated having some free time to explore on my own and Matias gave great recommendations of where to hike and eat. I highly recommend this tour to the adventurous explorer while in Auckland!

Piha is a MUST-GO place if you're in Auckland or close by. Matias is a great guide and driver, and he also lives at Piha.!! This means that you can get all the information about the place from a local one. As a group we visited one of the waterfalls, then was free time (3 hours app) to explore the black-sand beach, Tasman Lookout, Lion Rock and get into the ocean. After this, I fell in love of Piha so I decided to stay one night at their beautiful family house. Ana and Matias, ur the best.!

Having only 1 day to visit Auckland, it's oscene to receive a notification from them, canceling your tour just a few hours away from it. At 10pm when you have no more chance ro rebook with another company. Mechanical problems? Come on! You are a tour company. Use another one. Rent a van! Borrow one!

I was so surprised to find that we were a group of five. I loved our guide's commentary about New Zealand. I loved the nature, wildlife, waterfalls, walks in the forest, and the black sand beach. Typically tours are not our thing. But both my husband and I thought this rated as one of the best tours we've ever taken. Probably because of the free time. Matias drives you to Piha, makes a stop at two waterfalls, drives you to the black sand beach and Lion Rock. He points out a gorgeous hike that takes you to a lookout over the beach and then takes you to a drop off point so you can walk to the falls. I feel this tour is best for mobile people who do like to walk, hike, and appreciate nature. If you do not fall into that category, this may not be your tour. We loved the free time to explore as we wished. It is also a great tour if you want transportation to the beach and want to play in the water (and avoid the hikes). For the price, we thought this was a great value for what we received and we'd highly recommend Oh yeah! Tours for Piha.

Matias offers a fantastic and affordable way to explore Piha Beach. His tour is exactly what I needed - trasportation from Auckland, a quick waterfall stop on the way to Piha, an orientation to the area, a drop off at Kitekite Falls, and an on-time pickup at Piha Beach. Matias is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the area. He is totally customer oriented and completely flexible and accommodating. For me, the tour was the perfect balance of information and freedom to go off on my own. I would recommend Oh Yeah Tours to anyone with a desire to explore Piha Beach.

We decided the night before that we really wanted to spend the day in Piha, but we had no way to get there as there are no public transportation there. Within minutes of my phone and email inquiries, I received noticed that the tour was available and made arrangements to be picked up - even though we live a bit outside of CBD. Matias was incredibly helpful. We learned so much about the area from him as he lives in Piha. He first took us to the Karekare waterfall for a short walk up with him, then give us a tour of Piha so we could get our bearings before dropping us off at the KiteKite waterfall for our own adventure. We spent several hours hiking to and around the waterfall, then walked to the Gap. We were running low on time, so we texted Matias and he nicely agreed to give us an extra hour so we could enjoy Piha a bit longer. All in all, a wonderful and friendly service for folks who want to see the west coast beaches but have no car. We found the tour extremely affordable and really liked the fact that we had 4 hours on our own while in Piha. Thank you Matias!!

I have booked this tour, but read a review that mentioned the waterfall hikes being strenuous. We are 67 and 72 and in reasonably good health ( although I am overweight). Was the hiking strenuous is in your opinion?

Oh Year Tours never showed up for mu previously booked and paid for wild west tour nor did they return any of my phone calls. Beware booking with them.
