A compact yet attention-grabbing museum, the Whipple showcases the remarkable achievements of science throughout the centuries. I went there with my family in March, and we really liked the anatomy and cosmos exhibits in particular. One item that really stood out among all of them, was the 14th century clock - which obviously seems rudimentary and bizarre for today but what an achievement back then!!
For nostalgia value, one may be interested in perusing the computing devices in the museum. I saw the "Little Professor" which I remember as a small boy.

I doubt if many people make the effort to come here which is a pity as it is a real gem. I like these old fashioned museums where everything is in glass cases. The museum has a very fine collection of equipment used in navigation and astronomy together with many microscopes and a few other odds and ends.

Whether you like scientific instruments, calculators, astronomy, telescopes, or just seeing what a Victorian parlour would have felt like then this is a great place to visit more than once.

I enjoyed this museum, but it is dominated by the collection of the founder - unsurprisingly. The collection includes many interesting scientific instruments of various kinds, as well as related objects ... not unlike the similar museum in Oxford. But I was astonished at the omissions in a History of Science museum in Cambridge, since many of the major scientific things associated with Cambridge are not mentioned! At all! Big things like the work of Isaac Newton - arguably a modern founder of Physics - who was from Cambridge. Or Crick and Watson (and Rosalind Franklin?), co-discoverers of DNA, also from Cambridge. Etc. So the museum is an interesting collection, but not really a good place to get a sense of key ideas in science. I was very surprised to see Napier's Bones described as connected with logarithms! (They aren't, even if their namesake was.) Worth a visit, but don't have too high expectations about the scope.

This is one of those rare museums which as a totally different take on history - it shows how the science was developed rather than the big things the science found - if you like science, machines, or just learning how something was invented this is the place to go.

I found it fascinating and really informative and 90 minutes was about right because I felt weary after absorbing so much information.
This venue is perhaps less appealing for younger visitors but is nevertheless packed full of interesting items that showcase the impressive craftsmanship stretching back centuries.
I was most impressive by the quality of the cards that accompanied the exhibits; much effort has been invested in making these concise but very informative.
Many thanks, I’ll be back.

Took grandchildren. Interesting objects to see and activities for young children to do e.g build a brain and dress up as a Victorian child while playing with Victorian scientific toys. Quite a quirky place. Children enjoyed it. No cafe and only one loo which let it down from a practical point of view.

give it a few minutes and you're hooked. Instruments for measuring and seeing things from inside you to outer space. I particularly liked the expedition cases brought up from the cellars showing the tools used to measure the transit of planets in out of way places

... and how do we at least preserve the knowledge we’re having for future generations to work on? This place has a sparse collection of objects on each of these questions. Here are some examples.
➡Right column: middle cabinet: A collection of fungi models made from heating glass rods to show that fungi can be as aesthetic (rather than gross/ewww/hating it) as designer glassware. All made by fungi scholar /enthusiastic Dr. Weston.
➡Left: An exploration of the ‘strangest’ objects in house. Included as one of these unfortunate categories are opaque protractors (which I have some faint memories of using one of its kinds), whose practicality were cast in doubts when a teacher constantly found that ‘students were mismeasuring angles’.
(Remember to turn right into the lobby and get upstairs. You’ll find a collection of astronomical instruments on first floor.)
