Great Example of Stability

Another great example of architecture sending a message. More than merely "form follows function" we have the architect telling us that this is an age of stability, of growth, that "all's right with the world". You can get up close and examine the exterior detail - no sparing of expense here.

2 night stay in Chester

We visited the town hall on 3/6/22 they had a free Royal Jubilee exhibition on.
It was lovely looking at all the Queens photos throughout her reign.
You can go in the court house and there is some stunning art work.
We enjoyed our unexpected visit.

Magnificent building.

Dominating Chester Town Hall Square along Northgate Street is Chester Town Hall one of the most recognisable landmark features in the famous Roman walled city.
After the Chester Exchange building was destroyed by fire in 1862 a competition was devised to design and build a town hall ,won by Belfast architect William Henry Lynn ,the new town hall was opened in 1869 by the Prince of Wales who was accompanied by Prime Minister William Gladstone, it cost £40.000 to construct ,the clocks in the tower were added much later in 1979 ,it's a beautiful looking building ,Gothic Revival architecture looks so good,my twin brother Stephen and I were in Chester for a couple of days over the Christmas period ,the popular Chester Christmas Market was held on Northgate Street ,the beautiful Chester Town Hall looked superb especially at night ,beautifully illuminated ,it's a building I highly recommend you check out if your planning a trip to Chester.

Well Worth Visiting

Welcoming and courteous member of staff allowed us to visit the building, which it turned out was open to the public the morning we were there. Fascinating visit, in particular, for anyone interested in local military history. Impressive building in Victorian gothic style.

Городская ратуша построена в неоготическом стиле в 1698 году на месте здания Биржи. В 1979 на башне ратуши были установлены часы с тремя циферблатами (на западной стороне башни циферблата нет). Возле входа стоят скульптуры, изображающие знаменательные события истории города. Внутри ратуши мемориал, посвященный памяти горожан, погибших в Первой и Второй мировой войнах. В сокровищнице ратуши хранятся множество значимых ценностей (меч с рукоятью XV века, церемониальный жезл (1668 г) и пр.). Большой зал ратуши можно арендовать для свадьбы.

Council still hiding behind Covid

THis was our first visit to the city of Chester and we had been recommended to see the town hall but someone on the door said there was no access for the public due to Covid!! I find this hard to believe when the Cathedral and the churches are all open as is every other venue. Think it gives a bad vibe.

Nice clock tower

Chester Town Hall is near the Cathedral, the tower has room for four clock faces but only has them on three sides, not the side facing West towards Wales which is strange.
