Very busy in areas, but quieter parts easy to find.
Ignore the shops & concentrate on the rows.

Absolutely loved our first visit to Chester rows. We wandered around the shops and visited restaurants but our favourite thing was the history of the place; how it had developed through the centuries and the story of various buildings. Fascinating place which we also walked through in the evening when we could see even more architectural detail in the bars and restaurants on the ground floors. Great that it’s pedestrianized - felt very safe to walk through late at night.

I love Chester but over the last 12months it has declined with numerous closed shops ,neglected tourist areas ( Roman Gardens and Riverside) and the Rows and Shopping areas are looking neglected and run down.
The council appear to be spending more money in Ellesmere Port and the ghastly Cheshire Oaks whilst allowing this beautiful city to die

Very interesting historic heart of the City of Chester, these first floor shopping galleries are almost unique in the world now and transport you back to how it may have been 300-400 years ago. There are plenty of interesting and boutique type shops to keep everyone interested.
However, we found that after dark, once the shops are closed, the first floor galleries seem to be inhabited by dubious sorts of people, messing around and generally causing issues. The two nights we were in Chester we had things thrown at us from one of the first floor galleries as well as witnessing youths in hoods skulking around at first floor level. After dark, Chester City Centre generally feels quite lonely and desolate, with few busy pubs or bars as is often the case in other town centre areas. There also seemed to be a complete lack of policing around the area, which felt like it encouraged antisocial behaviour more.
Overall interesting, but not so great at night.

That's was truly different experience to watch such kind of shopping rows and shopes. Nice boutique. Like to buy many more things buy all ages enjoying that street. Shop outer decor is black and white.
All types of shopes are available.

Nice to see sights/sites that look exactly like the photos! The historic district is very walkable and the Hop On Hop Off Bus is a great way to get oriented and rested up. It stops at the train station so that one could save taxi fare to the center, plus the ticket is good for 24 hrs.

Interesting architecture, history literally dripping from every wall and door.
Thee is also great shopping to suit all budgets from high street, high end boutiques/designer to quirky little independent shops and cafes.

Strolled round , enjoyed the history and architecture Chester has on offer .
Lots of jewellers and eateries but left unimpressed with the other shops.
Lots of closed shops now and the place really needs a clean up.
Shame it has declined...

Unique to Chester with lots of independent shops and cafes the Rows are a great place to wander especially if it is a bit rainy.

Hi. I'm visiting on a Sunday and Monday soon. I know smaller shops often close on those days. Are shops on The Rows more likely to be open on the Sunday or Monday (trying to fit a trip in to the zoo too). Thanks!

yeah, I would say the same. Town was almost empty and closed by 4pm on Sunday.

There are quite a few different stalls outside near by the forum shopping centre and the cathedral the atmosphere is great! Christmas lights are lovely in Chester very pretty! Hope this helps

are the Chester Rows easy to access for a disabled person? my partner has a mild mobility problem and struggles on stairs. Thankyou

Hello sorry for delay in replying you have probably been there by now. They are on two levels access to upper levels is mostly by stairs suggest you contact Chester tourist office to see if there are places you can get up easily. I work in an old Theatre without a lift we have lots of people who come with mobility problems my advice is if you take it slowly and carefully you'll get up the stairs. Good luck !

We are driving from Stratford-upon-Avon to Liverpool and would like to spend a few hours walking around Chester Rows. Can anyone suggest where we should park and whether there is anything else close by that we should look at too. Thanks
