Easily negotiated compact city centre easy to get around. Once into town the walls, cathedral and the Rows were easy to find. The walls are a great place to walk and see the city, the cathedral is a special place and the Row shops are really something different.
There are plenty of good eating and drinking places too.

Constructed between 1849-1851 is St Michaels Church which was one of nine churches in this area at one time ,constructed from designs from James Harrison it's now history & heritage centre that's free entry and offers a glimpse into the history and development of Chester from Roman times onwards,the church building is also superb ,a grade II listed structure that is very photogenic ,offers great photographic opportunities ,it's easy to locate along Grosvenor Street and is definitely well worth seeking out if you're planning a trip to Chester,the famous Roman walled city.

Chester has a rich Roman history and heritage. Outside, you can see part of this in the excavated amphitheatre and the sculpted Roman Gardens. Inside, the Grosvenor Museum has quite a number of items dealing with Chester's Roman history. On the ground floor there is an extremely interesting exhibition of Roman tombstones. Called 'Stories in Stones', these tombstones are well-displayed and are accompanied by boards which give a full description (and history) of what you are looking at. Entry to the Grosvenor Museum is free.

Housed in the former St St Michael's Church is the history and heritage centre which is interesting to visit but to me I just love the look and history attached to this former church building.
St Michael's Church was one of nine medievil churches that could be found in Chester ,standing on the site of the Roman Southern Gateway ,architect James Harrison practically redesigned this church between 1849 - 1851 to leave us with this beautiful structure that's easy to locate along Grosvenor Street.
Well worth checking out if your planning a trip to Chester.

Been to Chester before but o my here working. Set out from the market car park and headed to the high street to find the information centre. Whilst looking at a map, manager of the info centre popped over to us and gave us a very concise overview of Chester. She really did love the place and after our trip there so do we. As I said it's not quite York, of course being from Yorkshire I would say that!!
Although Chester is absolutely charming, the walls, cathedral and all the other amazing parts of the city centre. Stunning shopping areas. And the magnificent clock tower.
We will be back to Chester and will make it a regular visit!!

Der Besuch von Chester lohnt sich wirklich, vom zentralen Parkplatz am Fluss ist man in 10 Minuten in der historischen Altstadt. Die mittelalterlichen Fachwerkhäuser mit ihren 2-stöckigen Gängen und den vielen netten Geschäften haben uns wie die Kirchen sehr begeistert.

The work of Professor Robert Newstead, first curator of the Grosvenor Museum, is explained and illustrated. In one room the geology of the area is illustrated with displays of carboniferous rock, red sandstone and rock salt. Foot prints of ancestors of the dinosaurs are displayed. Also on display was stuffed birds. The Roman period in Chester is illustrated with many finds, particularly one associated with the Legion XX which was stationed in the Chester fortress called Deva for around 150 years. The display of Roman stones is fascinating and well explained.

This building is absoluely outstanding for the historic nature of Chester with three sections to visit. It is a must, and well worth it

Girando a Chester la nostra accompagnatrice Denise ci ha indicato l'ex edificio come la chiesa di San Michele che ora ospita un Museo di storia e patrimonio di Chester e del suo distretto.
