Fantastic place. The ride was great. Parking near by makes it easier for the less mobile. Both villages top and bottom pretty. Lovely shops bars and restaurants.

Wonderful, wonderful cliff lift!

Always a delight to return to the Cliff lift - we went up and down a total of 4 times during our stay - and I loved it. It's certainly a long, long way in each direction! What a delight for it to be water-powered, too.
There's always wingers anywhere you go - please ignore them - we loved it - and will use it again and again when we come back next year.

Un funiculaire à eau impressionnant de charme!

Fantastique ! Lynton et Lynmouth sont accolés
Garez vius sur le parking à l arrivée, prenez 3ou 4 h de temps pour descendre à pieds jusqu'au funiculaire à eau. Faites un arrêt à l église. On descend facilement jusqu'au funiculaire ensuite, 2.50livres pour remonter, le personnel de la cabine est très charmant et à proposé spontanément de me. Prendre en photo souvenir voyant que j etais une petite française solo😃très sympa! Lynmouth est vraiment un lieu magique avec des vues magnifiques même en hauteur... Prenez le. Temps de manger un bon chips & chips l esplanade fish bar M a été conseillé par des touristes, bien sûr c est un lieu moderne mais le fish and chips est copieux(2 repas pour moi) et peu cher et tellement bon(12€avec un thé)

Staff were so friendly and we really enjoyed our trip up and down on the cliff railway. The views were amazing. Will definitely return and recommend

A must do

This is a must do if visiting Lynmouth or Lynton. This is a long cliff railway with superb views over the bay as you climb up in the wooden carriage. Information board at the bottom has some interesting info and photos. At the top Lynton has some nice shops and eating places (Charlie Friday ). At the bottom Lynmouth has quite a bit to while away time.

We went up on the railway £3.50 each,what a view,thoroughly enjoyed it ,then at the top we went in the glass house for lunch and coffee,and then walked all the way back down to the front again with my 87 year old mother,got to the pub at the bottom the rising sun and she had a well deserved brandy.

Lovely old carriages

Great experience, we had s foggy day so couldn’t quite embrace the Bristol Channel views.. we just did up, as singles each way would rack the price up to £14 for both of us.. beautifully maintained old carriages; overall, I do think £3 one way per adult would be more appropriate pricing & then offer a deal as a £5 return .. with all other things to pay for, car parking, supporting the local shops and restaurants.. all these extra costs does make a day out in England very expensive.

Amazing day out for all

Absolutely great day out loads of great cafes pubs, dogs enjoyed some free time in the sea and kids loved climbing the rocks, the cliff railway was a lovely little experience.
We climbed the cliffs which was a great couple hours well spent seeing the views across to Exmoor well worth it if you’ve got your hiking boots. Beware thou as there’s quite a drop of you miss place your footing!! And finding a natural waterfall flowing through the views down to the sea below
A lovely gem of a place

A great and unique way to take a short trip between Lynton & Lynmouth on the highest and steepest totally water powered railway in the world! Friendly staff all happy to answer any questions and easy contactless payment although it would of been nice to have return tickets, its single both ways so the price racks up for 4 people.

Thank you for visiting the Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway, we really appreciate you visiting us. The time to check paper tickets and sell return tickets created unfortunate bottlenecks in our queues and in an effort to go paperless and improve peoples visits, and reduce queues we moved to a single ticket system a few years ago. But please know that we run this railway only with funding from ticket sales so every visitor is really appreciated. Thank you for visiting.

This short ride is the best way to get from Lynton to Lynmouth and back. It is reminiscent of the funicular in Quebec City. One can enjoy views of the Bristol Channel while traveling slowly up or down the cliff. The entire trip lasts only 2-3 minutes, so enjoy it while you can. Dogs and children are welcome, at reduced rates. Staff were professional but not particularly friendly.
