Was planning to visit during our stay at bigbury in a couple of weeks however their website is confusing and not greatly informative. It states that only assistance dogs are permitted in the house (ok not unusual) and gardens, but then elsewhere it states dogs are permitted in the surrounding parkland. However with no map of the estate online its impossible to determine how much of this dog permissable area there is and whether its worthwhile. Poor opinion that they dont allow dogs in the garden though - we're not all heathens that dont pick up after our dogs so it ought to be allowed.

We started off at Saltram House doing the riverside walk with our dog.We managed to see the Amphitheater in the grounds built around 1740. Saltram House is a lovely Georgian house with wonderful gardens. I loved seeing the kitchens and the beautiful hall.The volunteer’s were very knowledgable about the Parker family and I would definitely recommend a visit.

Pleasant gardens in a NT property that gives the impression of being in the middle of the countryside rather than the outskirts of a large city. Borders still colourful in October, some lovely specimen trees and suitably period music playing in the tea rooms lend suitable charm

We had an amazing day at Saltram House and Gardens, It is beautifully decorated and displayed. There were a lot of staff available, who were very knowledgeable about the history of the house.

Nice place, couldn't stay long as had to go into Plymouth but would visit again.
We are staying near by (look at other review on where not to stay), and as we have a national trust pass, why not visit. Went to the visitors centre and they gave us all the info we needed.
When to look at the house which was nice and the staff where really friendly and more than happy to help.
The kid wanted to play in the park so we let him for a bit, it wasn't the best and that's why I marked it down. Didn't do the walks around as needed to go but will go back one day.

Our first visit for 2 years & not disappointed.
A lovely autumn afternoon with gardeners hard at work around the grounds. It was lovely to see the citrus trees out on the Orangery terrace. The paths had clearly had a relay and not much else had changed. Thank you to the staff we met a very happy bunch! We look forward to returning soon.

It is lovely to walk arround Saltram gardens, I especially liked the summer house with it's cast iron shell seats. The workmanship was exquisit & to be able to go under the summer house to see where the servants worked to keep the upstairs comfortable was very interesting

Nicely laid out gardens offering a range of pleasant walks in the autumn sunshine. Whilst not filled with spectacular colour, the planting made the most of the conditions.

You don't have to pay to visit the grounds [just the house]. We took a good 2 hour walk around a circular path through the woods and around the estate. A great place for walkers or dog owners.
We visited the tea room. Take acre to avoid the breakfast baps/rolls, they are far too greasy and will repeat of you for hours!
Plenty of visitors here and it seems a popular place for walkers of all ages.
Great to experience some greenery with a few minutes of the city centre.

Confused as to where dogs are allowed... Are tbey allowed on the main garden area near the house? Also would i be able to sit outside the chapel tea room with her. Tia..

According to a 2016 review: “... you cannot get anywhere inside with a dog and certainly not to the park tearooms.”
