Best news in a while, for a lot of us. After the sudden and unsettling closure of the much bigger premises in Bretonside, at last we see part of the ressurection with the revamping of the Junction at Mutley.

Dan James, the successful owner for a decade of this excellent live venue announced this weekend (9/10 July) that the White Rabbit at these premises within the Bretonside Bus Station has closed its doors for the last time because the city council has sold it all for redevelopment as a multiplex cinema and sundry restaurant and retail units, rebuilding a new bus station in the oddly chosen new location at the imminently being demolished Mayflower St West car park. Mr a James has said that he is at an advanced but delicate stage in negotiations to acquire a new building for a White Rabbit which he intends to resurrect ASAP. The news is at once sad and optimistic. Let's hope it works.

Excellent night on Tuesday at the White Rabbit. Best live gig I have been to in a while. Our group of six came out hot sweaty and entirely sated. Large crowd.

Would love to review the place but didn't get chance. They cancelled the show I was travelling to see 24 hours beforehand. Don't rely on having a ticket, doesn't mean you will see a show! Won't be booking any future events here!

Today the local radio and newspaper have announced that Plymouth City Council who own the drab dreadful Bretonside bus and coach station where the White Rabbit has its big welcoming and unexpected premises, is subject to an apparently firm deal to sell to developers who intend to demolish everything and replace it with an IMAX cinema and a dozen other screens together with sundry chain restaurants. The traders in the bus station were all told yesterday that they a few months left and will be out well before Christmas. white Rabbit sounds doomed. All the more reason to use it for the many gigs still in place over the next few months and to support the already lively and large campaigns to save the WR and work towards a new site if the present developers do get their way.

We booked our tickets online which was fine to see a comedy act . Advertised as starting at 8.30 with doors opening at 8 .
We arrived and entered the dingiest darkest dirty room with a bar, small stages area and standing area all painted in black and reminiscent of an 80's nightclub. The staff were friendly and drinks well priced. However that is the extent of the happiness.The toilets were disgusting with remnants of bodily fluids everywhere . As I was the first person using them this night that is not good .we then proceeded to wait until 9.45 watching the young crowd gradually getting more and more drunk and angry at the emptiness of the stage and no sight or sound of the act .or anyone from the staff willing to offer reassurance..eventually we also gave up through boredom and the impending trouble brewing with the restless and now drunk and chanting audience. An evening completely wasted which we were offered no refund or explanation when leaving. They could be still waiting now.

Receives a lot of touring bands. Can't make a lot of money. Really is an excellent public service. Interesting ambience in large low ceilinged room in the bus station. Somehow doubt the capacity claimed in the head note. I would have thought three fifty tops but no criticism, this is one of the few committed venues in plymouth with a good feel for successful bookings and which is always a good place to be.

All the components of this place get it right. The venue is exactly on the button. A surprisingly good selection of music. Lively crowd. I especially like the grumpy Police Community Support Officers anxiously but frustratedly patrolling the dank bus station concourse failing completely to find cause for concern.

Almost always hot and sticky but I have lots of fun here. Tacky setting in run down bus station but that all adds to the experience. Beware can be full and sold out. Check this place online.

Small, but perfectly formed. If you like your venues hot and steamy, then add The White Rabbit to your list. It was with a tiny degree of trepidation that I headed to this destination, but it was easily found - just listen for the bass sounds echoing! ( car parking was another matter, as I usually park in the larger car parks in Plymouth - however I did manage to street park ).
