After a long gap substantially overlapping with Covid lockdowns etc BacBar has been replaced by Manuka with considerable work inside and extending out the back on Tavistock Place. Manuka has its own TripAdvisor entry and is described as a bar and eatery. Subject to Covid restrictions and developments it is likely to reopen in the early part of 2022.

Looks like all change at what was BacBar. The sign has been taken down and the main room gutted with all stripped out and what look like large openings in the floor and ceiling. Workmen declined to say how it would turn out or whether there was to be a new name or if there are new owners but it looked as if they were determined to finish before the flush of new students arrive over the next few weeks.

This used to be a pretty decent place for a night out with mates, until new management decided to turn it into an overcrowded, chavvy fire hazard with the decent wooden seating out the back exchanged for a college common room from the 90's and the friendly, respectful door staff swapped out for a portly bald bloke in his sixties with a soul patch and a chip on his shoulder. The Bread and Roses is around the corner, for the more discerning drinker.

Decided to visit BacBar as haven't been there for years and was meeting a friend, only to be rudely kicked out by a larger framed member of the door staff who grabbed my arm and pulled me though the club after I had paid my entry and ordered a drink. Was given no reason at all as to why I was being removed and from what I've heard and can see being posted here this appears to be another homophobic attack, I'm disgusted with how I was treated and my friend! Will never be returning again and I would advise anyone else not to go here unless you want to be basically robbed as was allowed to pay for my entry and drink before being thrown out! I don't understand how they are allowed to get away with this!

Older doorstaff who is always on the door told my two male friends to leave the premises and made up a vulgar story about sexual acts they did that was clearly not true (one of my friends are straight and has a girlfriend for starters!?) Left his post randomly to kick out two innocent people who paid for entry and drinks. I left with them as I didn't want to be associated with a place that hires homophobic door staff. Ruined a leaving party for my friend and turned a brilliant night out into one of the worst. I've been kicked out of Q (when it was Cuba 4 years ago) for kissing my boyfriend at the time. Can't believe people get away with this in 2019 and will continue to.

Visited this bar on the 26th April before midnight as we saw they advertised 2 4 1 drinks between 9pm and 12am. Upon paying the fee for entry we proceeded into the bar and when asked we were told they were not doing this, despite us showing the bartender on several devices it was still before midnight. Very disappointed in the service and false advertisement and will not be returning to a place that treats their customers like this.
I would suggest that if this bar wishes to advertise a 2 4 1 deal before midnight, they actually stick to it.

Still open and rammed near midnight last Sunday week when the rest on the Hill and Sherwell were all in darkness. Still some activity on the Plain - D&D etc but who would want to trail all the way up there?
Simple affable predominently student pub. Next doorish the Manhattan Cocktail basement bar is almost always empty. There ought to be ample trade for both.

Bac Bar is the middle of the night stop off on a night out, the drinks are cheap, and atmosphere is great with a group of friends. The lower ground Rum Bar is a great meeting point and serves a lovely Hazelnut Rum.
