This mixed sports bar has been closed for at least a couple of years and now the premises which formerly nestled under the large Co-op Derrys department store are being redeveloped to create a large mixed complex involving student and other accommodation. There may be some new retail etc businesses on the ground floor but there seems no prospect of reviving Riley's.

At least in the day times. Have been in for a pint or a game of pool, often to watch footy but for several months the big red front door has been locked without notice or explanation. Would be sad if it's all ended. Maybe it opens late evenings but there's no sign of that.

I walk through Courtenay St most days and Riley's has not been open for several weeks. There is no notice or explanation at the entrance. I suggest that anyone hoping to use it might telephone before taking the journey in.

Riley's is a nearly 40 strong national chain of sports bars. This branch isn't bad. In addition to pool darts and lots more there are regular poker sessions and tournaments. I think it's better than just watching TV sport in a regular pub.

Well used place for pool, snooker and sports on TV. Well used by locals of all ages but mostly under thirties. Convenient in the city centre a few yards off Royal Parade by Smiths and the Noah's Ark. Friendly and welcoming. Open late.
