Cockington village is as quaint as it gets. Whilst very small, it has a lovely collection of thatched buildings, including a tea house, shops and an old blacksmith's which is now converted to a gift shop.
Just up from the village centre there is a craft village and church and we chose to take a walk on the circular country walk, which gave us a lovely hour or two in the countryside.
Finishing off with a cream tea in the tea house, this is a perfect place for a few hours in the English countryside.

Well-maintained country park, well laid-out footpaths, plenty of benches and grassy areas. There are craft shops at the entrance (including chocolate and jewellery). Cafe with comfortable seating and toilets (including for the disabled).

Beautiful little village to visit. Lovely little gift shops. Cafe manor house lakes lots to see parking available need to visit village then go to manor house where there are more little shops

Very nice area but why put a registry office in the middle of the area and then NOT SIGNPOST IT? We had a nightmare trying to find the registry office for our daughters wedding and due to the one way system (Cockington Lane) ended up exiting the area in order to enter it again to try and find if we had missed a turning. We had not, it was just not signposted which considerable added to our stress. Car parks were not cheap and spaces were tight.

Pleasant place to walk with paved footpaths . Interesting church to visit. Nearby Seven Dials café serves light lunches and snacks with toilet facilities nearby. Walked down to the lakes and went on to the path that leads to the beach, unfortunately this was not accessible due to road works.

We spent a nice morning exploring Cockington. Lovely walking paths and the manor house is now an art gallery. They have artists shops behind in the old stables. We enjoyed our walk down to the pond and had a nice cream tea when we arrived back in the village.

We came here about 4 pm. Unfortunately the craft shops were shut but the cafe was open for excellent cakes and we ate these whilst watching a cricket match in the very pretty surroundings.

Yes we had a horse and carriage ride around the lake yesterday for 20 mins at cost of £30. Horse was beautiful, his name is cowboy xx

We went to Torquay just this last week. We were going to visit Cockington but on looking at a leaflet on it I was slightly bewildered.
Can anyone tell me if Cockington village is a visitor attraction ie a model village specificly for visitors. A model village.
I first thought it was just a pretty village to enjoy for a few hours but now unsure. Are there people actually living in the village. Forgive my naivety but confused.

it's a full size village. people live there nice pub interesting independent shops to look around etc. there is a model village in Torquay this is in St marychurch

Is it suitable for younger kiddies (2 - 7 years) and what is there for them to do and for older people (82) is it level walking access please?

I am 70 and I find I can manage the stroll around the grounds quite easily although the area around the lakes is just a little bit hilly,it is such a peaceful place to visit after the hustle and bustle of Torquay and children have lots of space to run around,play cricket chase each other around,ride their bikes and make their own enjoyment away from electrical gadgets and stuck in front of the tv.Horse drawn carriage they would love and the newly restored water wheel is interesting,good pub with great food or a couple of tea rooms all set in a pretty thatched village setting just a stroll away from the sea front Enjoy

Most certainly! When we were there there were possibly more dogs than people! :)
Absolutely super place for them, with beautiful grounds and open space for them to run around in. Both the cafe in the house and the nearby pub welcomed them (on a lead), and I think the only restrictions were around the craft areas and in the shops.
We will definitely visit again with our dog when next in the area.

You certainly can park up and cycle around the estate and village. Either park alongside the road adjacent to the river or park in the pub's car park - then come back to enjoy a nice lunch!
