Fabulous mish mash of love story and beautiful home with treasures from around the world expertly narrated by the wonderful Pippa who has an immaculate knowledge of Merton and Annie who curated this amazing collection in Bournemouth. You can just wander through this history on your own or jump on a tour with Pippa. If you are lucky you will also hear some magical piano playing.

We stumbled across this place while on a two night break and we were looking for something to do for a couple of hours on a slightly grey Sunday morning. We were so surprised by the property and it was like walking into another world. If you love Art you will be enthralled by the gallery as it is filled with beautiful paintings and sculptures.
The house itself is an eclectic mix of styles and tastes that take you around the world in 80 minutes. There was a tour going on while we were there that we dipped in and out of. The guide was passionate and so knowledgeable about her job. There were other people around who were keen to answer questions. We rounded the visit off with tea and scone in the coffee shop which was lovely and reasonably priced. The entry was worth every penny in our opinion, but we are used to paying to visit similar historic places.

What a find?!

This private art collection is really high quality and set in an amazing, cliff-top building that's run beautifully. The collection is very varied: artworks, furniture, interior design. And the gardens are very attractive.

It seems to have suitable accessibility adaptions - though the location is on the top of a steep hill.

Fabulous museum and gallery well worth a visit!

What a gem of a place on East Cliff. Fabulous house and fascinating collection. Our visit was made by Pippa’s outstanding story telling, guiding us around the house and identifying and describing historical artefacts and decoration in a really interesting way. Lovely place, good cafe and right by the beach. Excellent value for money .

Excellent Museum

A fine house with many splendid treasures to explore.
There are useful seating opportunities for those who enjoy a rest after too much excitement as well as a pleasant cafe serving light lunches etc..
Didn’t see anything much of a garden but the terrace offers great views out over the bay.
We used the pay & display car park a short stroll down from the house - not cheap (about £9 for 3 hours) but very convenient, and most people I think would want 2 hours plus for this visit.
Until Feb 10 there’s a 2 for 1 offer on admission - just £8.50 for a couple which is outstanding value!
Overall a very enjoyable time.

Exquisite rooms filled with interesting artefacts, beautiful domed ceilings, stained glass, paintings. Great cafe, kind and caring staff everywhere.

If I lived in the area I would become a friend of the museum. Such a lovely place to visit. Can’t wait until I get back next year.

Stunning House & Gallery with Unrivalled Views

What a totally stunning house & gallery this is. Didn't know it was here on previous visits to Bournemouth & so close to our Hotel. We were lucky enough to see it in festive Victorian Christmas decor. The views from upstairs are unrivalled & the art work beautiful. First visit but definitely not the last...absolutely loved it!

I just loved looking around this house. The house and it’s contents are so interesting as is it’s history. The experience was made all the more special by the excellent pianist who entertained us on the grand piano whilst we were there. And I can recommend having a scrumptious cream tea in the cafe.
