The main entrance gate to Canterbury Cathedral is this gate. It has been totally cleaned and repaired. However, the green copper statue of Christ was not there during our visit. This is a very distinct statue. In fact, the only other time I visited this gate in 1991, the gate was almost entirely black but the statue totally left an impression. I will say the current gate is impressive with the new paint on the shields. You can actually see them. Anyways it is a very impressive gate that will soon have its Christ statue back.

The restoration of Christ Church Gate has now been completed and you can see it in all its glory. The statue of Christ that goes in the central niche will be put back soon.

Aktuell ist das Tor komplett eingerüstet und es ist nichts zu erkennen! Im Tor werden bereits die Tickets für die Kathedrale kontrolliert

The entire structure is covered by scaffolding and will be so for the next 2 years but you can see the wooden doors which date back around 450 years.

This is a fantastic , historical gate to the Cathedral, very photogenic. Unfortunately some of it was covered in scaffolding, when we visited, but all the same worth a look.

Per visitare la Cattedrale, motivo della nostra visita a Canterbury, si passa necessariamente sotto la Christ Church gate che è la porta di ingresso . Situata nel centro storico, è circondata da negozi e locali molto caratteristici.

For anyone who’s been to Durham Cathedral it is a place of absolute architectural splendour but ALWAYS messed up with scaffolding that makes it ugly. Really ugly. A photographers nightmare!!
The same for this beautiful gate - Durham syndrome. Splendour and majesty gone to the dogs.

Was not able to see as maintenance going on..Did not know that you need ticket even to see the Cathdral from outside. We did not book ticket online so, we were just made stand on a separate queue, but we left.
