The staff were really friendly and helpful and the training room upstairs was really good with great facilities. There were a range of good snacks and drinks. There was a good selection of useful gear to buy. It is a nice centre to climb in.

However, the main climbing area was extremely busy with children's clubs, youth squads and young children with parents not being aware of other climbers. Perhaps it is not as busy or manic at other times.

The bouldering has changed significantly since the last time I visited Chimera, not long after it first opened. It is predominantly competition style, which is great for developing competition climbers, but not for training for outdoor rock climbing. Most of the wooden walls, quite a large proportion of the centre, were taken up with dedicated comp blocs. Some of the problems were really good, but the majority were comp style.

Clearly the centre knows it's market and is doing very well catering for that market. However, with the exception of the training room, it is not really aimed at outdoor rock climbers.

Fantastic Experience

Fantastic experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our introduction to climbing with Hamish who is an amazing instructor who worked closely with us, building on skills we already had and blending them with the basics give us a truly unique experience.
It’s was nice to be greeted early in the morning by staff who were friendly and inviting, who knew what they were doing and clearly enjoy it.
The facilities were clean, well organised and well maintained. All safety information was easily received digitally, and sign in was a breeze. It’s nice to see facilities using technology to improve the customer experience.
Overall I am extremely impressed and will certainly be coming back again.

Chimera Climbing Is a Great Place To Hang Out And Have Fun At The Same Time As Climbing. The Difficulty Starts At Grey And Ends At Red There Are Some In Between The Grey And Red. They Also Have A Café And Changing Rooms And Up Stairs They Have Bean Bags To Sit On And Down Stairs They Have Tables To Sit And Rest/Eat. The Staff Where very helpful
I Strongly Recommend This Place
My Rating Is 9/10

Great place to bring the kids. They have really lovely friendly staff, makes all the difference. And I had an amazing soya flat white, he’d never made one before but it was top notch. Thanks for everything, we will most definitely be back!

Fantastic 9th birthday party at Chimera!

We held our daughter’s 9th birthday party at Chimera earlier this month and couldn’t have been more impressed. The instructor made the party such fun and was great at encouraging the more nervous party goers and challenging others. The combination of games and free climbing was perfect and the hour flew by!

Honestly I have never saw customer service as high as this place. On a previous visit I had left my bottle behind so I went to the desk to try and get it back and was told they had just threw all the lost bottles out. However one of the employees without offering to do so ran back to the dumpster bin jumped in and started rummaging around for my bottle. I was amazed!!! If this doesn’t tell you how much they care about the people who use this climbing centre I don’t know what does!!

My son had a simply amazing 7th Birthday party here. The instructor, Ben, was fab with the kids. He kept them interested and engaged the whole time and gave them the confidence to tackle some great climbs. They all came away loving it and wanting to come back.

Excellent facility and staff

We visited Chimera with a group of 14-17 year old Explorer scouts. We had exclusive use of the walls. The staff were great with them and led a thorough warm up, interesting and varied climbing session and cool down. The facility was perfect for the age group and they had a great time. My only small negative was how hard it was to find in the dark!

Brilliant Facility

I've been going to Chimera several times a week for a couple of years now and have nothing but good things to say. It's allowed me to get a proper focus in regards to my fitness training and been very enjoyable whilst doing it. The staff are very friendly, approachable and helpful and the climbing routes have a great variety for people of all abilities. You couldn't ask for anything more to be honest!
