The scenary around Ullswater and the lake itself are truly stunning, I don't think words will do it much justice so just look at the photos instead.

There’s so much to do in and around Ullswater. Sailing, walking and photography are just a few of the possibilities.
There are the famous launches based at Pooley Bridge. It’s possible to do a circular tour on the launch from which there are spectacular views of the fells. Combine a sail with a walk, for example take the launch to Howtown and walk around the lake side path to Glenridding or sail to the Aira Force jetty and climb up to see the magnificent waterfall.
Staying in the car doesn’t rule out the breathtaking beauty of the area. There are various car parks alongside the lake including one at Aira Force where there is also a very good National Trust cafe and toilets.
it’s impossible not to be impressed with Ullswater. In winter-snow covered fells, in spring- new growth and the sound of lambs, summer- long and hopefully sunny days and the splendid colours of autumn.

If you don’t go you are seriously missing out!

Has a quick look around here as we were nearby. Some areas were accessible but we were not wanting to go out onto the water. There was some great drives into the mountains nearby which was great.

Loved our day out and about Ullswater Lake. We chose to get on the water via the little steamers from Pooley Bridge to Glen Ridding. It was wonderful.

I would say simply beautiful and stunning, there are a lots of gorgeous walks around ullswater from easy once to the more demanding once😀 either way you wont be dismayed with breathtaking sceneries around 360 degrees but be sure to pack a lot of water😀 the good thing around ullswater is not that crowded and for sure you will have a lot of picturesque spots all throughout your trek. Its a fun filled experience when you are nature tripping 👍

Visited here and walked from Glenridding to Aira Force waterfall and before before turning and returning. Parking can be expensive, especially at Aira Force so we found one of the many lay-bys where parking is free if you are happy to walk.
The waterfall is great to see, although sadly one of the better viewpoints was out of action due to a tree fall, we then continued up hill alongside the lake and had some great views below returning to our start point.

A beautiful lake; we enjoyed views while hiking and also the drive along the lake afterwards; we actually drove all the way along to the north-east edge before returning to Keswick.

We stayed on Ullswater and absolutely fell in love with the lake. It’s very peaceful, not touristy at all and there’s lots to do, such as visit the waterfall. Very beautiful place.

A beautiful part of the Lake District and relatively few other people in May. Plenty of walks, easy around the lake and more challenging into the hills. Pooley Bridge offers a choice of tearooms, restaurants and places to stay as well as a stop for the lake cruisers, Glenridding is similar but has larger hotels. The National Trust Aira Force waterfall is worth the visit.

Don’t overlook the beauty of the South side of the lake, it has so much to offer.
I had a fantastic day walking from Martindale today, bagging five Wainwright’s in a horseshoe starting at Beda Fell and finishing off The Nab.
If you like to see wild Red Deer this is the place.
Today the valley was roaring with the sounds of the rutting Stags.

yes. lots of places
it will be cold- it is a big mountain lake and never warms even in a heatwave. 14-16C at best.

Does anyone know when St Patrick's Boat Landing will be open again and how to get hold of anyone who works there as I can't get through by email or by phone. I understand they are currently going under redevelopment. Anyone know if they are planning on building toilets there? Anyone know how many adults can fit into a rowing boat there?

I looked on the website and found this information:
St. Patrick’s Boat Landing is open from very early Spring (prior to Easter) until later Autumn (end of October – beginning of November). You will find us here from 9.30 am until approximately 5.00 pm - depending on the weather – and happy to cater for your boating and biking requirements. If you wish to book in advance – perhaps in respect of a group – or if you have any special requirements, please contact us whenever you wish.

Hi, I stayed here in the Wydon farm house self catering flat which was beautifully presented and warm and cozy. Lovely place with beautiful surrounding hills with rustic views of the Cubrian country side. Lots of sheep and little lambs for company.

Hi,
I was staying up in Dockray so walked down passed Aira Force which has ample parking and its free if you are a National Trust member, but there are also numerous spots to park at along the way.
can you legally wild camp around Ullswater Lake.

Yes you can definitely swim there, at Pooley Bridge the river that enters Ullswater is a great place for kids to swim as it is really calm and shallow, for swimming in the lake itself I would wear a wetsuit as it is very deep in parts and really cold 6ft below the surface even on a warm day
