The Cellar bar is a great little bar with a friendly barmaid we stopped in for a first quencher before lunch.
We also returned after lunch for a few Gins. And then again later on in the day for a few more Gins before getting a taxi back to grasmere

After visiting the very quiet bar the other week we were informed the downstairs cellar bar was open. Expecting a warm welcome because of how quiet they were. We were ignored by a rude red haired woman who clearly didn’t know what she was doing there. After asking for one of their draught beers, she told me I was only able to have a bottle of peroni because she didn’t know where the buttons were on the till!
We all sat down drinking our drinks, having a good night when the lady behind the bar starts telling one of her customers how she hates all Muslim people. Absolutely disrespectful as We had a Muslim friend with us that had done nothing to her! After asking her why she would say that in the place or her work where she should stay professional she didn’t give us a very good answer (just don’t like them) was her answer.
We let it go and ignored it so we could try and and have a good night!
Few moments later, we went to get another drink and got told she had called time- which I replied oh I’m sorry I didn’t hear you. She then grabbed the bell, and shouted, last orders and time at the same time. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from someone who clearly had no customer service and clearly doesn’t know what they’re doing behind A bar. No apology, not even a thank you.
NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN

Dingy, dirty, well worn bar. The fixtures were tatty and the decor in need of a refurb. Probably a 'cool place' to hang out for the younger generation but not for us.

we played the giant jenga here which was really fun
we always come to use the pool table but its always busy sometimes with the bar staff playing which is frustrating.
good range of drinks but like everywhere else its very expensive, the most I payed the whole trip for two pints £9 something i think 25

An eccentric bar underneath a hotel with interesting decor. My boyfriend and I came here on a rainy Saturday afternoon after walking around Ambleside for ages. The bar staff were pleasant and the drinks were average prices (cider and lager). There was a football match on several TVs. The seats were really comfy sofas and there was large Jenga pieces in a bucket which was cool - a nice different place to go for a drink.

Stumbled across the entrance for this cellar bar in the centre. Tried it out anyway, crossed between a Student bar and Goth bar. It had sport on the big tv's which was a good thing and decent prices!

We were in Ambleside for a week long series of lectures at the local University of Cumbria campus and held our end of week party at this venue and it was a great choice. We came from all corners of the world and ended our week in our very own function room within this venue at no extra cost! The sofas are so comfortable, music is great and the drinks very reasonably priced. The barman even left his post to take a group photo of us which we all treasure as we are not likely to meet up for a very long time. Thank you for providing a great venue for our final night in Ambleside!

Nothing wrong with the place itself, nice and chilled out, free pool.
But with the reviews on here and the camra signs and real ale revolution signs, I was expecting a good choice of real ales, it wasn't to be, I think it was 2 pumps on which were the same standard ales in all the locals.
Not a place for me unfortunately

Went here with a friend and our sons and stopped all night when we were supposed to be doing a pub crawl. There were a couple of reasons for this. There was a couple of hand pumps with proper beer and lager for the boys. The pool table was free. The bartender was great and played any tunes we asked him for. Great night out, bad head the next morning.

Visited the cellar bar a few times on my holiday to Ambleside and really enjoyed it! Visited mostly with my boyfriend and his younger brother due to there being a free pool table inside which was great fun. This was in a slightly secluded area of the bar so great for playing pool with friends in your own little area of the bar.
Drinks were really cheap, especially with the happy hour 7-9pm deals on beers and some other drinks. The music played inside was a mix of chart/remixes/drum and bass/older songs which was great as it was quite varied.
Each night we visited it was the same barman who was really lovely and friendly with us. The service was great apart from having to wait to be served sometimes as when it was quite the barman would sit in the side room therefore not being able to see the bar. Other than that i loved the cellar bar. A great place to chill and have a few drinks and just relax. Especially with the comfortable and varied seating around the bar. Will be back:)
