I was working in the area and had more spare time than I was exoecting so I hunted down a book store. This is a gem. A proper good old fashioned family owned bookshop run by people who know their stuff and appreciate your custom.
Located right in the centre of town on a traffic-free lane with plenty of little cafés about. It's the sort of town centre scene that has mainly disappeared but in Penrith long may it all continue.

Great small independent place in the centre of Penrith. Only children's books on the ground floor but plenty of other's upstairs. Found a couple of interesting reads to buy.

I could buy off Amazon. But then gems like this would disappear. The prices are absolutely fine and you’re able to browse a diverse selection of books and not just what an online retailer wants to sell or push you. Just because I’ve read one particular crime novel means I want to read loads of others just the same, Amazon. Here you can eye scan titles in areas that might interest you. Owner and staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It’s a treat to go inside. Don’t let places like this disappear.

This bookshop is everything a small independent bookshop should be (minus the coffee shop - but it's definitely too small for that!).
The owners are lovely and friendly, and only keen to order something in if they don't have it in stock. They also have a lovely selection of cards and wrapping paper.

Popped in to treat myself to a new book whilst on holiday. Staff were very friendly and chatty. Lovely shop, good range of books, some unusual and some great local books too.
Lots for children also.
Would definitely revisit.

Great bookshop really broad range of books, lovely space to browse, poetry,stories about the moon or a great big book on birds.. it is all here and easy to find something that you really want to read! super knowledgeable lady also wrapped my book in paper which was brill. Definitely worth a visit.

Forget the big chain bookshops with their promotions paid for by the big publishers, this is a shop where you can get excellent advice from people who know and care. Given its size there is a remarkable selection which is very varied. What they have not got, comes quickly and efficiently. A very good selection of cards, notelets, etc. which are artistic and distinctive. This is how book buying should be.

I came for a look around, on the off chance that there was a polish book (we were visiting Poland for a long weekend, and wanted to be able to atleast speak the pleasantries whilst there, so something with simple phrases etc). Found the perfect book, and ended up spending a good half hour looking at all the other books that were stocked - the lady working was very pleasant, and I'm sure if I'd required assistance, she would have been thoroughly attentive. Will definitely make this a stop next time I need reading material - its so much nicer wandering around a bookshop, finding unusual, not all run-of-the-mill books than clicking a button online...so nice to see places like this still exist - but without people shopping in them, they wont!
