There are a lot of people wandering round in denim aprons looking studiously at iPads, what is there role / purpose? Are we allowed to ask them questions? If so, give them a badge “ask me a question?” I’ve seen about 15 of them so far & they just seem to be reading emails & looking concerned. No-one has approached them. Perhaps this place is just too well designed that it’s a bit like the emperors new clothes?
The exhibits on the top floor are super. The football exhibition good in places poor in others, gives a bit of information but not enough.

I bought these tickets for my other half so we could combine the Arts with footie and it was an excellent exhibition. It showcased kits, tech, stadia, crowds and competitions. Really entertaining look at this worldwide industry. Funny to visit an exhibition where most visitors are blokes, made me realise how little of the Arts and culture industry tries to cater for them. Highly recommend in the lovely Design Museum. Also worth a wander in Holland park after for the Dutch and Japanese gardens

We visited while the Amy Winehouse exhibition was showing. A thought provoking display that we are glad we saw. The rest of the museum houses creativity of all kinds from the new to the old. Marvelled at the new , while the older iconic items brought back memories. A good place to visit for any age group and ideal for families.

We were keen to see the Amy Winehouse exhibition, but after walking miles, we were quite happy to have a sit-down and delicious lunch. What a massive disappointment. The cafe, staffed by surly and largely monosyllabic staff was absolutely dire. BHS had cafes with better food and service. Pathetic food offering, largely cakes and no licence, so not even a glass of wine. Ambience was similar to a doctor’s waiting room, only without the joy. Leaving hungry and depressed, we decided to view the rest of the exhibits. Whoever curated this disparate pile of crap needs to have a look at other galleries. It looked like the current Culture Secretary had a hand in it. On asking for a guide to exhibits a member of staff informed us that ‘it’s self-guided’. May return for an exhibition, but not a place to spend a day.

Amy: Beyond The Stage. On until 10 APRIL 2022. A reminder of Amy Winehouse and how much talent and skill she had in somebody who was so young.
Just go for her fashion, go for her music and lyrics, just go because she was an amazing jazz writer and singer and the exhibits remind you of her great performances and superb material.
An amazing skilled writer, performer and this museum gives you a real insight.

To be frank, the best thing about this museum was the building it’s housed in! It’s not really spectacular outside, but it is a triumph of cool design inside, with soaring well-lit spaces, graceful arches, and pale-timbered balconies.
I certainly noted the themes of Maker, User and Designer for the museum’s permanent collection; they are plastered everywhere in an endeavour to etch them firmly in your visit memory. There are almost 1,000 items supposedly revealing the history of modern design through the perspectives of designer, maker and user.
However, I just didn’t always get the connections between the three themes (and I assume they are supported to be connected). At times the displays just seemed random, without rhyme nor reason - items just plonked there for your consideration, amusement or puzzled viewing pleasure. With displays such as iTake and big corporate names such as Apple and Sony featured prominently, it all seemed a bit of a nod towards corporate connections rather than the pure essences of design. After all, it’s supposed to be the world’s leading museum devoted to contemporary design in every form.
The permanent collection features items from areas such as fashion, architecture, engineering and the digital world. Its collection is supposed to be an important record of the key designs that have shaped the modern world. I just didn’t get or feel that. Some of the displays were interesting, some completely dull and boring. As a senior (who actually didn’t grow up in the United Kingdom), I found the most interesting part of the museum was actually the display of seemingly random items covering the wall to the lest of the large moving digital sign, with the London Underground rondel as its dominant feature. There were many items which I was familiar with, and many which took me back to my childhood and early days as a primary school teacher in rural Australia: the pair of flip-flops (or ‘thongs’ as Aussies call them) which we wore continually as children; the box of ‘Cuisenaire rods’ which I used for teaching mathematics as a young teacher in the early 1970s, the ‘instamatic’ camera with disposable flash bulbs which started my interest in photography, and the Bialetti coffee pot, which I have used religiously for decades to brew my morning coffee. I went back to that particular display many times during my visit. So in many respects for me it was more a trip down memory lane rather than a mind-blowingly brilliant source of enlightenment into the pros and cons of clever or fabulous design.
I'd pinpointed a look at the 3D printer, to see it in operation, but it was not functioning.
It’s free to enter, though special exhibitions are ticketed at a cost, and need to be booked in advance. As expected there’s the ubiquitous gift shop, though that lacked stuff that was startling and unique. It’s easily manageable for those requiring mobility assistance. I walked to the museum from Kensington High Street underground station (about a 15 minute walk). The museum is located by the entrance to Holland Park.

I came to see Great Amy Winehouse Exhibition. It was wonderful seeing her things on display. Her music was playing in the background and large TV. You can take photos with the flash light.

Went to see the Amy Winehouse exhibition Beyond the Stage today. Absolutely fantastic there are some things you can't take pictures of like her personal things (hand written lyrics, diary entries) but you can take pics of everything else (it will show you which items can't be photographed).
There were 2 shops to buy stuff but the one before you go into the museum is dedicated just to Amy memorabilia...... So much lovely stuff, treated myself to a replica of her heart shaped Moschino bag and a pin badge.
Wish there was a permanent museum like this I think it would be very popular it's only there till April so go visit before it goes!
I'm a fan of hers and even if you're not hugely into her you'll enjoy it.

I’ve always been intrigued about Amy Winehouse. The voice of a modern day, Billie Holliday.
When I saw the #designmuseum had curated an exhibition about her short and valuable life, I really wanted to see it, along with my young daughter and her friend.
The wonderful visuals, personal items and the subtle background music of her performances was an absolute joy to witness.
We have been robbed by the loss of Amy. She was without doubt, completely unique. Her treasures live on.
The layout of the exhibition is free flowing and the monumental soundtrack is very noticeable at all times.
Completely recommended, the sound of Amy will always stay with us.

The Design Museum is a wonderful way to depict how designs incorporate varied use of materials over time, while also contributing to the way on how they make their practical designs appeal to their preferred users. It also includes some interactive parts namely video in the permanent exhibition but I would have liked to have seen more. The Design museum is inspiring for someone wanting to move into a creative field but doesn’t yet know which area they would like to specialise in. It is inspiring to anyone to become designers themselves.

There was a place to chain a bike outside and the lockers are very large so could possibly fit a foldable bike in. I think you’ll be fine.

Secondo voi è necessario comperare online i biglietti per la Mostra di Kubrick ?
Ci vado a inizio giugno, in settimana, e mi chiedo se c’è già tanta gente o se si può rischiare di comprarli sul posto.

The free exhibition whilst cleverly, but confusingly arranged, seems to have very little content, compared to other museums in the area. I don’t know what their agenda is, but it’s not provide a comprehensive chronological history of modern design.

Does anyone have any advice about parking in this area? We are going on a Sunday, so hoping to find free parking near the Design Museum.

Chiltern Rail from Leamington to Marylebone and then the tube (or bus to Hyde Park and then wander across the Park to buses on the south side down to the museum). Travelcards include tube and bus travel and there are group discounts for families (I don't work for the railway!).
