I’ve been to the Tate Britain many times because of the wide variety of exceptional artists on display. I rated it a 4 of 5 this time because the collection of JMW Turner paintings—arguably one of Britain’s greatest artists—weren’t on display. Regardless, the collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings alone are worth the visit to this Thames-side temple to art. And on the something new front, the series of Francis Bacon paintings was a pleasant surprise. While there are so many art museums in London to choose from, the Tate Britain should be in you top 5 to visit.

Tuvimos mala suerte con nuestra idea de poder ver las obras de Turner en este museo, ya que al momento de la visita (febrero de 2023), las salas dedicadas a este importante artista estaban cerradas al público debido a una reorganización en la disposición de sus pinturas. De todas formas, aprovechamos de disfrutar de hermosas obras de otros artistas ingleses.

There's so much in Tate Britain that's worth seeing -- Pre-Raphaelites, Modernists, Henry Moore, and the Turners (which unfortunately were not on display when I went) -- that it's worth skipping the Tate Modern if you're short on time. The museum is large that it's easy to spend more than one day here, so you'll have to pace yourself if you want to get the most out of your visit. It's one of the best museums in the world; no other museum has this collection of great British art.

This is a great collection of mostly British art up to the middle of the 20th century. It's just a few minutes walk from Pimlico underground station. I really liked the laid back approach of this gallery, you could get very close to most of the paintings so you could really apprciate the detail. It's free so you can pop in for half an hour or spend far longer and really see the collection. Will revisit when the Turner collection is open again. There are lots of places to sit and gaze at the artworks.

I looked online and could see it was my type of gallery.
I didn’t anticipate spending almost 3 hours and that was with rushing a little towards the end. I love the set up and the relaxed flow from room to room. There’s plenty of room to stand and observe and just take your time. I absolutely loved this gallery and I’d happily return. Found the entrance to the gallery confusing and no idea where to begin so spoke to a member of staff who was on hand at the entrance and I was instructed on where to begin.
It is disabled friendly here as there are ramps, disabled toilets, lifts and wide corridors and doors.
There are also lots of benches dotted around for those who may struggle with walking.

La primera vez que fue a Londres, me quedé con ganas de ir, porque por un fallo terminé en la Tate Modern.
Fue exclusivamente a ver la colección de pinturas de los prerafaelitas, que para mí son simplemente maravillosas.
El personal del museo muy amable.

Some interesting pieces but slightly underwhelmed by the art - we really are spoilt for choice in London!
A beautiful building of itself and well worth visiting. Arrived by boat which is always a joyous way to travel on a glorious sunny day.
Had an enjoyable lunch in the cafe having descended the remarkable staircase.

I was bitterly disappointed by the current displays at the Tate. There has been a complete overhaul in the collection shown and the best exhibits seem to be missing. It’s a far cry from my experience of visiting the gallery two years ago or so.

We came to see the Huw Locke installation The Procession after watching the fascinating introduction by the artist on the Tate website. Not remotely disappointing - even more impressive than described and expected. We also went downstairs to see the Bill Brandt photographs. More types of work than we’d known before. We also enjoy time in the main bookshop. Smaller but I think better selected stock and gathered than that at TM. Inevitably taking home some titles we wouldn’t have encountered elsewhere. Immediately opposite we could see parts of the Quinlon and Hastings frescos of street scenes. Drawn in we saw the remarkable images revealing and emphasising the uneasy social dynamics that many of us saw or heard about in the news media. Add in a three quarter hour session with teas and munchies up the members cafe and we found the we had unexpectedly spent an entertaining but worthy full half day in out of the rain.

Hi Jannerbloke. We're so happy you enjoyed your visit to Tate Britain and found some new inspiring artists. Our displays will continue to change through to spring 2023, so please keep an eye out on our website for details. New rooms displaying works from the 1940s through to the 1970s will be opening just before Christmas, so we hope to welcome you back with more inspiring work soon. As a Member, I would recommend making sure you see Yiadom-Boakye's major survey which returns to Tate Britain after it was sadly cut short by lockdown - it will be running from 24 November 2022 through to 26 February 2023. Hew Locke's work is extraordinary -not to be missed. If you're headed to the Natural History, Science and Albert and Victoria museums, they are all connected by tunnel one can access from the South Kensington Tube stop. Try to visit museums on weekdays - weekends are very crowded.

We use the members area upstairs but have also had picnics outside on or off the entrance approaches. We used to enjoy sitting on the front steps but once we obviously looked too organised and likely to stretch it into a long and lubricated lunch. We were very politely asked to relocate and I think found a spot roughly opposite by the river wall. You could cast about on the Google street view and find somewhere suitable.

Weekdays are generally quieter but not by much to be honest though I have never found the queues too bad and if you are visiting a particular exhibition you can pre book and skip that queue
The queues at the main entrance are down to increased security and that is inevitable these days I’m afraid

We went on a Saturday in the rain and just walked straight in so I wouldn't have thought there would be a problem during the week at all with queues
