If you are in London and you love hats this is the shop to go to! Whenever I am in London, I will pop into Lock & Co Hatters to check out their new hats. It became a sort of a tradition to do so. So whenever my mom and I went to London in the beginning of July, we went to Lock & Co Hatters to look for a lovely Panama hat. Everyone in the shop is wonderful and very friendly. But if you go and you are looking for excellent customer service and maybe even a bespoke hat, then ask for Jayesh Vaghela who goes by the title Master Hatter. He is extremely knowledgeable about hats, knows exactly what you are looking for, and treats anyone like royalty. He tries to fulfill every wish. I bought a Panama hat but wanted a bespoke band in the color khaki/olive to match my summer clothes. He immediately got the ribbon, explained the process, and made my hat bespoke and unique. it turned out lovely. I just love it! Anytime I can go, my experience is truly special and I am just happy to be there! There is truly no other hat shop as Lock & Co Hatters and I already told Jayesh that we will be back next year for a new hat.

Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff ,took time and care to ensure I had the right style,and type of hat,first class quality products, and second to none after sales service.

On 21 October 2023, my wife Colleen found ourselves in St. James after shopping at Fortnum and Mason and stopped at Lock & Co. I am happy to say I never was more pleased to see myself in the right place at the right time.
I have known about Lock & Co. for many years and used to get your print catalog. I was looking forward to the day I could visit the store.
When my wife and I entered the store, a little bit worse for wear given the weather that day, Max greeted us. I told Max that I had known about the store for many years and was looking forward to visiting but was quite sure I could not afford anything in the store. That being said, Max was very hospitable and was willing to spend time with me, even though no sale was planned. I even got my head sized with your unique sizing device.
As I was looking at the caps for sale, I mentioned in passing that I would like to see a trilby, and a beautiful brown trilby was produced. I put it on and fell in love with the hat. My wife (the arbiter of all things fashion-related for me) was equally impressed.
Max then had the hat steamed and stamped with my initials in gold on the inside hatband. I left the store with my fabulous new hat and a Lock & Co hatbox to keep it in while I was traveling.
All this occurred because Max was genial and welcoming despite an excellent chance of no sale being made. I think Max was as excited as I was with the hat and how it looked on me.
My wife and I traveled to Ireland, and I became known to our tour guide as “The Man with the Hat.” The hat has gotten equally positive reviews at home here in Chicago.
I wanted to let everyone know of the excellent customer service I received from Max. Customer service like this is often the exception and not the rule in many shops nowadays. Lock and Co. continues the grand tradition of men’s hats, and I look forward to wearing my hat for many years to come.

I have been here a few times, I've said before that this is the best damned hat shop in Europe (though the shop itself could use a newer and larger building, as their product range is consistently high-quality and popular, the price of real estate in London can not POSSIBLY be the reason Lock's still has a superannuated s**tbox of a shop front—and having a branch in Paris, Milan, or NY USA ought to bear serious consideration). It is *still* the best hat shop in Europe, and there still isn't enough room to swing a cat.
On to two specific Lock's products: the Sandown girls' trilby (at least, I believe it's a girls'/women's hat) which is of rabbit's felt, I believe, and well worth the price. I have occasionally borrowed my girlfriend's despite being the 'wrong' sex. I did not buy the Sandown, so I can't say more (Barbie purchased it for herself), but I would be fully prepared to buy the gentlemen's equivalent on a future visit. Very much enjoy trilbies in general.
The other Lock's product bears mentioning: the Coke, which is, shall we say, an entirely typical, even *prototypical*, example of a bowler hat. (In other words, if you imagine the silhouette of a bowler hat, you'll almost by definition have a Coke by Lock's). To be absolutely precise, it is typical except in one respect: it will stand up to being accidentally sat on by an adult male, and then intentionally stepped on. No damage at all. Try doing that with an AliExpress purchase.
Both products were to the best of my knowledge cash purchases, in person. Prices are reasonable when compared against Bates or Borsalino (which sell somewhat inferior products, at a slightly lower price). The manager's name, I think, is Mike, though I may be mistaken.

My late father, a habitual hat wearer, bought two Lock caps from the shop which he wore for very many years. We still have them but sadly they are a good size too small for me. A hat enthusiast myself, I have long wished to visit the shop so when I wanted a new, less formal, straw hat for the summer I ordered my St Louis trilby and aranged to pick it up during a recent visit to London. I was not disappointed by my visit. I was greeted by a friendly member of staff who recognised the Lock cap that I was wearing and got my hat ready whilst my wife and I had a look around the shop and the little museum at the back with the Nelson and Churchill items amongst many others. My hat was then expertly fitted and left the shop on my head and into the welcome sunshine outside. A memorable visit which I hope won’t be the last.

A shadow of former times. I have bought hats from Lock for twenty years or more. The quality of hats I looked at on a recent visit was very very disappointing and the shop had an air of chaviness to it though prices were maintained.
A visit to Bates nearby was much more satisfactory.
I fear for the future of this shop unless it gets back to traditional values.
I doubt it will retain its Royal Warrant unless they supply better to The Households.
It can be done. Both Berry Bros just next door and Bates seems to be maintaining standards.

I went in today to buy a top hat, excellent service from Maxwell, it is very hard to find a ladies top hat, but in here they were so happy to help I even had my name printed inside, lovely experience will definitely go back, I also love the history of this shop. I felt as if I was the only customer in the shop thank you

Always a pleasure to shop at Lock, but on this occassion, a very special thanks to Jayesh Vaghela who was able to flawlessly undo - inside of twenty minutes - what an extremely well-fed pigeon (perhaps even an albatross, based on the amount of damage) had done to my black panama. Amazing service and my sincere thanks.

Always make time to visit Lock and Co when I am in town.
As a hat wearer, I have found Lock and Co offer the best levels of service and range of hats in London. The shop setting is something to behold and always enjoy being emersed in the history held in the building. The advise and help offered from the staff is second to none so all in it makes for a very special buying experience.
During my last visit, I was privileged in being able to visit the 007 museum at the back of the shop and see the range of Bond memorabilia. It was fascinating.
See you next season for my Spring headwear.
