Warm welcome and bright and clean centre. Interesting visitor experience. with very knowledgeable guide. Good AV reels and information on offer.

I wanted to visit this fantastic landmark in Middlesbrough to make a memory of my visit. I walked to the visitor centre within 10 minutes of the station. I was warmly welcomed by scruff (aka Paul) who showed me around. It was an obvious disappointment not being able to get in, on or up the bridge; but still fascinating, nonetheless. I enjoy feats of engineering, and this is one of them. Our very own version of the famous US skyscraper image. My hope is to revisit and experience this wonderful blue structure more closely. I hope it always remains.

Went to visit not knowing the crossing itself is closed requiring major investment. Found the visitor centre was still open and had a fascinating hour with the staff. Very knowledgeable and full of interesting information about the bridge and the area. Well worth a visit.

Todo en general es imponente Bel puente pero les sugiero q vayan justo al lado de donde se acordaba el paso del puente hay una pequeña casa museo con videos en información del lugar y otras cosas más pero sobretodo está Pawel q amable te cuenta muchas historias historias y puedes hacerle todas las preguntas q tengas ,genial con personas así da gusto hacer turismo.

Bridge currently closed but the visitor center is open with videos to watch and very friendly staff to talk to.

Fantastic guided tour by John, who was delighted to show us round parts that other people didnt get to; it was a very quiet day and hadnt expected to spend so long there. Wonderful engineering, fascinating contrast to the lift bridge a bit further up the river. Very informative, and lots of stories to tell.
I hope theres funding to resore it to working order; or at least get the non slip surfaces replaced so people (braver than me) could climb the tower and walk across!

Very Bridgey. I was worried about meeting the bridge as they say you should never meet your heros.

Yes, it's closed for repairs and has been for a couple of years now, but it is still worth a visit if you are in the area because it is such an unusual feature and you don't really get the scale of it or any idea of how it operates unless you are up close.
We were staying in Durham and it wasn't far. Or if you are visiting Saltholme RSPB Reserve it's only down the road to get to it.
Hopefully we'll be nearby again when it reopens to be able to take a trip on it !

An important feature from this area and when up and working nice to get across towards Seaton Carew from Middlesbrough end, been spent lots of money on this to repair but still closed either its too windy or under repairs nice structure but website poor information on opening times or under repair either make a decision spend more and fix it or maybe

Worth the visit to see something unique and even better if happens to be working. Believe you may still be able to climb the bridge under strict supervision. Morever, if you want to visit Seaton Carew this is the way to go...........

my dad henry McAlpine,worked on the transporter bridge in the late 60s,came from Glasgow,we lived in grove hill,i think the house came with the job,when he died in 1968 ,we had to move back up to Glasgow,i wondered if anybody in the area worked with him or knew him .he had a wife and four kids .any info would be very helpful,thank you

Best to check as occasionally closed due to inclement weather or maintenance

No not at all. However check the operating times on the web site. We got caught out a couple of times with it being closed. Also if your coming for Middlesbrough side and not returning, check you map for how to get back
