THe name means empty land in Old English. Now occupied by lots of current and former chruches and attractive cottages.

An area around the cathedral which has a high density of churches - hence the name I presume. Sadly when we visited it was a Monday and the churches that do open, weren't open. Good to have a wander and see some of the old buildings. It mixes the old and the new as there are also some restaurants.

This historic area of Norwich is full of important architecture, places of interest and history. Some of these include St Michael's church, Erpingham Gate, Ethelbert Gate, the Tudor house of Augustine Steward, Samson and Hercules House, and Edith Cavell Memorial, just to name a few. Much of the buildings around here are just pubs and restaurants though.

This is a great little area for exploring if visiting the town with lots of little streets and quirky little buildings to look at and explore. A quaint and historic area.

Well worth walking around and I’m sure taking many photos, one of the most characterful parts of Norwich with great shops and restaurants

Tombland is the open area outside the cathedral gates in Norwich. Parking is an issue but if you have been in the Cathedral it is worth a wander round. There are some fine buildings to look at, including the one with Samson and Hercules supports and a very grand Maids Head Hotel and a memorial to Edith Cavell. At the far side is the Samson and Hercules building. Although this is a private building it is worth a few moments to pause outside the building to look at the door supports They depict Samson and Hercules. Built in 17th century the building has had many uses over time, restaurant night club offices etc

This street sums up the history of Norwich. Tombland and the nearby streets and cathedral are essential tourist spots while you are exploring the wonderful local old pubs. It's full of curiosities and quaint little objects

Phenomenal cathedral. Was great, albeit random, to see Dippy in his new pad, but definitely worth it. The curation was amazing, and it married together christianity, evolution and climate change with poise. After seeing Dippy, we had a look around the rest of the cathedral - a big shout out to the wonderful guide phillip who walked us through the history of the cathedral, from its building to present day. His gossamer tones, and amazing facts really hit the spot, and really set the tone of the place as welcoming and wonderful. Best cathedral experience I've ever had, 5/5.

Tombland is the area around the Cathedral and is one of the oldest parts of the city. Some of the oldest buildings can be found here. Elm Hill is the oldest Tudor street in the country , we were told, and was where a battle during the Religious Rebellion took place. The buildings are fascinating.

with 13th century Maids Head hotel. Not a big area but a good wander to view ancient buildings and streets.
