Whitby itself looks pretty good, lots of walking, interesting features, take the 199 steps up to the Abbey the views are well worth it. Everywhere is dog friendly, so the place is full of people with dogs, most restaurants are dog friendly also, not somewhere for people without dogs. Unfortunately we wouldn't visit again, we felt intimidated with all the dogs.

The problem with Whitby is that the lift has been out of order for a while and people with accessibility issues struggle to get down to beach.

Lovely views, free toilets and plenty of places to get food and drink nearby. It's a nice walk across the beach down to Sandsend.

A lovely beach with lifeguards in parts. We stayed near the funfair end for a shorter visit but still managed sandcastles and paddling. No dogs allowed in the summer which is excellent for us. Close to coffee shop and ice creams.

Nice , clean, sandy and pebbles...we find 5hagstones, took me 15years to find one in Tenby!love it.long walk.part of beach is open for dog(what a great idea!)at high season, and from September open fully.

Beautiful beach with great views. Plenty of cafes and shops nearby. Worth having a walk along the beach and down to the see so can take some lovely photos.

Plenty of thinks to do near by kids enjoy the sand but Don't get cut off by the tide there are some day chalets near the beach hard going in a wheelchair. So many other things to do at whitby . Visit the dracula experience, the Abbey, captain cooks museum the is a statue of capt cook on the cliff. Plenty of fossils can be found on the beach also famous for whitby jet jewelery. To hard pushing wheelchair or push chairs up the slop next to tjphe 199 steps to get to the church in front of the Abbey. There is a backroad to get you up to the Abbey and carpark next to the Abbey there is a youth hostel. Because the streets are cobbled hard pushing wheelchair or buggy around. Plenty of chippy's but look to see what others get portion size if it's big go there. You can go down the famous street with the smoke House in for smoking fish.

seems to go on for miles and very clean. we watched surfers even in freezing weather. must be busy in summer months but plenty of space.

I was stunned during our recently holiday by how lovely this beach is. At high tide it is almost completely submerged, so it is not ideal for anyone planning two weeks of constant sunbathing (also - its Yorkshire, don't be surprised by a sprinkling of rain here and there!) But the sand is lovely, and during lower tides the beach extends for some three miles along the coast, making for a pleasant stroll to Sandsend and ice creams.
An extra bit of interest is the pebbles that the sea throws up - on this coast, many Jurassic fossils have been found, so worth spending a bit of time seeing what you can find...

Restrictions apply to various areas at certain parts of the year. Scarborough council increased the no dog area this year without any form of public or other consultation. Access at the beach hut end is by VERY dangerous steep narrow steps that are unfit for purpose. BE AWARE, the “no dog” area is very poorly signed on the beach and fines are very high.

Hi no not at all. The tide come all the way up. There is a outdoor pool that is lovely which is open most of the summer months.
