Located near the Art Gallery these ruins are worth a look. I went through them as part of doing the City Wall walk. Good signs and relaxed presentation.

Nice ruins.

This area contains the ruins of the old abby. There are a lot of parts of the foundation of the buildings left. And a few walls. And they are in a beautiful park. It’s really a nice thing to see.

These are the ruins of St. Mary's Abbey. It must have been something special to see in it's day. The ruins are not large, but impressive. It's inside Museum Gardens and gives you the feel of what a large Abbey was like. Worth a look

Interesting finds in the museum garden.

Some good ruins are left here. You can see that the Abbey would have been huge in its day. There are better ones to see around such as Fountains Abbey but still worth seeing especially if you like history.

Hi there, thanks for your review! We are glad you liked seeing the ruins of St. Mary's. You are quite right that the ruins are much less intact than some other abbey ruins around Yorkshire, but we think these still pack a punch!

We visited here twice, very beautiful Abbey ruins, gardens and Ghosts too. We really enjoyed taking photographs here and we’re lucky with the weather. Lots of squirrels too.

Atrás da York Minster tem um belo Parque e neste encontramos ruínas da Abadia que nunca tinhamos ouvido falar. Visita inesperada mas interessante pois faz parte da história inglesa.
Guilherme II lançou as bases para esta abadia durante o século XI, que ficou conhecida como o mosteiro mais poderoso e rico do norte da Inglaterra naquela época.

I love visiting the Abbey ruins in England and this one is particularly easy to visit, it is in the city center. The area around is the a beautiful garden and York Museum. Great place to see plants and the ruins.

We Love the Gardens

This is a great place to visit. The ruins as well as the gardens are beautiful. One can only imagine what the Abbey looked like when it was whole. Go early for nice pics before all the tourists and tour guides get in your way.
