Great gem of a place to visit.

Nice variation of walks, some longer than others but all ranging between 1-2 hours roughly.
Tracks decent to walk on.
Nice to see nature
Nice few hours outside.
Nice little cafe and traditional themed shops
Only negative is cost of parking which I thought was expensive

This is a superb place for anyone to visit. There are so many walks to go on, for all ages and fitness levels. Scattered through the forest are interesting write ups and activities. There is also a short walk to the 1100 year old major oak that has been captivating thousands of people and holding many secrets for centuries. The park is meticulously maintained and if you're lucky, you can see all manner of wildlife including birds, rabbits, squirrels and deer. There are tents and face boards for interactive fun too. The visitor centre is really well set out, too, and staff are lovely. Parking is, however 5 pounds but the forest is free of charge so a wonderful day out for all.

We knew Sherwood was a good walk for the Dogs, so we (5Adults) stopped there to walk the dogs as we passed on route to Grantham!
We did not know about the summer (August) activities before arriving, but it enhanced the walk, as we had a Go at Axe Throwing and they had smaller axes with nearer targets for the younger members, adults could compete among themselves after the initial briefing from the expert, but young people could only go one at a time for safety reasons.
We also had a go at Archery with a Long Bow, the instructor Alisha was very good and had the patients of a saint, the long bows were shorter for the youngsters and Alisha made sure they had their body arms and holds in the right stance, she made sure they got at least one arrow on the target without being condescending to them
A walk that had that extra special touch. I’m sure it’s one the young people will remember

Gorgeous day out!
£5 to park all day is an absolute bargain because if you took a picnic etc, you wouldn’t need to spend another penny if you didn’t want to!
The visitors’ centre is lovely and everything is really well maintained. We loved the trails and how easy everything was sign posted. The facts about the different trees and the forest were fantastic for children too- not overly wordy and lots of fun.
The park is also really lovely for children to play.
We had a great time and would highly recommend!

We as a family absolutely loved our visit to Sherwood Forest & seeing the major oak. I am 62 years old & can remember my first visit here as a 10 year old. Children could climb inside the major oak & I can honestly say a band of merry men would not fit inside the tree to hide. We will be back again as soon as possible ❤️

Came here with my family on Saturday and it was a fantastic day out, there were activities on, plenty places to picnic and the staff were friendly, the toilets were constantly being cleaned.
The staff that were doing the activities were so engaging with everyone but especially the children, Sherwood is a beautiful place.
Thank you to all that made it a lovely day.

The forest is gorgeous, lovely to see it being so well cared for, and the Major Oak is a must-see for all Robin Hood fans!
Be careful of the icecream vendors (Frederick’s?) though - on the hottest day of the year be bought two small icecreams in plain cheap cones. No prices were advertised and it became
obvious why - £5 each! No toppings, one scoop, one cheap flake, and I was lighter by a tenner. The icecream wasn’t that good either!
To recap: forest amazing, but the Sherriff of Nottingham now appears to be operating an ice cream van 🤣

Nice forest, even saw the original tree robin hood used to go in!
Had a good walk
quite quiet even next to a motorway

We actually like seeing the hornets here. They are one of our brilliant pollinators and a natural pest controller. Seeing them also lets us know that the forest's plant life is in good health too.

What a waste of money.Talking about robbing the people to pay the rich!
£15 for parking didn't mind but had to pay another £2for a programme., not even a free map for trails. My grandson wanted to do archery he's 14, it was rubber arrows could of bought from £ shop. Axe throwing was quite good.
Satanic theme was a bit horrid.. Commercialised rubbish as usual, spoil a lovely place from memories I had.

Thank you for your review. I was sorry to read that your experience was not as you had hoped.
We still very much feel that, at £2, the programme provides good value, with the full detailed itinerary of events, map, a trail sheet for activities around the forest and the opportunity to enter a prize draw, full entertainer and trader information, and games and competitions.
On the issue of archery, the blunt arrows are very different from the sucker arrows on sall for smaller children in the shop, but I do understand that your grandson may have preferred to use the sharp tipped arrows.
Both sharp and blunt arrows are used by the providers, and it is always worth asking them if it is possible to use the alternative option to those provided to you.
The theme of the day was certainly not Satanic, but based on the witcher and Lord of the Rings characters from popular fiction, TV and film which went down well with visitors.
It certainly wasn't intended to be commercialised either, and we do promote independent artisans and traders from across the region to be part of the event.

If I just want to hike the trails, can arrive early, like 8am? Or do I need to wait until 10am when the visiting centre is open?

The forest is open 24/7, you can go walking as early as u like. Early round the forest is great, enjoy.

No cycling signs on the routes to the major oak
Have not seen any other cycle routes only bridle.

I think 7 - 11 year olds are ideal ages for sherwood pines: cycling, walking, things to do on the way round and loads of room for a picnic, football, rounders and other games. I think there's a 'Go Ape' too. It's a great place if you like the outdoors. You need good weather though as nearly everything is outside

Hello and thank you for your question. I'd definitely visit the Major Oak - it's a huge and very ancient English Oak tree, still flourishing after around 800 years of life! The Visitor Centre has a café and shops if you need souvenirs or lunch, and a small exhibition on Robin Hood, who - according to legend - once roamed this leafy woodland. If you have time left why not also visit Rufford Abbey - 3 miles away - for the medieval ruins, lakeside walks and parkland.

Not very far - maybe 20 minutes? It was very easy for my 3 year old to do. Saw all sorts walking it. X
