A brilliant place to visit

I visited as part of a day out to Wollaton park. I was absolutely blown away by the enthusiasm and knowledge of the volunteers. The history I learned in the steam tour was brilliant, the guide absolutely k ew his stuff and was really engaging.

The lace making machines were a personal highlight, as well as the framework knitting machines.

The transport and communication areas are also good - the antique clock mechanisms rescued from old buildings are really cool to watch ticking away.

Well worth the visit, and I will be coming back for a steam day very soon

Great tour of Nottinghams’ Industrial Museum.

Our Guide Roger gave us a great tour and history lesson. Everything came up from Kings and Queens through to Henry Ford, DC motors , Raleigh bikes and everything in-between.
We loved it. Great to see the artefacts and history of Industrial Nottingham being preserved.

Friendly, Informative and Interesting, a Wonderful Visit

I had a great time, there was so much to see and so many parts of Nottingham history that I was unaware of. Learning about the history of lace and how that has shaped Nottingham was so interesting. The consistency of information, particularly about the people was really good and a lot of it was laid out in a family friendly way. The interactive parts were great and the volunteers were all very knowledgeable and willing to share their knowledge. Learning about all of the industries that made Nottingham great was so interesting, from communications to clocks and transport. My personal favourite part was the steam hall. I had the opportunity to talk to people who were really passionate about the steam engines and even got a tour. I learned so much. It was a real joy to visit!

Amazing!!

First time visiting this museum, we were welcomed with friendly faces and lots of information.
Chris who works there showed us to various machines and displays, he was enthusiastic and full of amazing facts. You can really tell he is passionate about the items on displays. We had a really amazing few hours here and learnt so much as a result of this. Thank you!!

Interesting exhibits relating to the local area and businesses in history. Not too large and not overwhelming. Steam engine area very good, and had a great chat with Roger about the history of the technology and various characters that shaped our country

Fascinating museum with great volunteers

This is a fascinating museum, well worth the visit. It's clear that it's a real labour of love for the staff and volunteers. We had a fascinating tour of the Steam Hall by Roger, who was incredibly knowledgeable.

An unexpected pleasure

On a rather wet day, out for a walk we stumbled upon the museum. It was unexpectedly brilliant. The volunteers manning the museum were really welcoming and so knowledgeable. One of the volunteers offered to give us a tour, there is so much to see and his knowledge was encyclopaedic. The steam engines were a treat, just a shame it was not a weekend when they were running. The lace machines were fascinating as were the collection of motorcycles and bicycles. It is a real credit to the volunteers that a visit here is such a pleasure. The kitchen should not be missed, with a myriad of fascinating equipment.

The machinery and information available were bountiful and the volunteers super knowledgeable. Witnessing the large machines in action was a highlight but we particularly valued the broader perspective of the industrial progresses from Roger.

Great little museum

I’ve been to Wollaton park so many times and walked past the industrial museum, but something told me to go in this time and I’m so glad I did. It was a really interesting place and the staff were incredibly helpful and knowledgable.

Well worth a visit

Fascinating place to spend a few hours - added bonus when the steam engines are working. Transport exhibition with motorcycles, bicycles and a stagecoach. Carpentry workshop, and lace making machinery. But the best bit of all was the Victorian kitchen with Mrs Bird explaining how the mangle was a status symbol ! She also told us how young girls were used practically as slave labour making nails in the 1800’s, and how the whole family were exploited by the nail masters.
