About us: We are a student enterprise, running 'uncomfortable' walking tours of Oxford. Our tours are researched and designed to encourage discussion on difficult histories. We feature topics such as: Imperialism and colonialism, race and racism, unethical donations, history of slavery, gender discrimination, class tensions, and more.

A fascinating and intellectually stimulating tour of the Ashmolean. We were a very small group -- just two of us aside from the guide, Anja (who did a great job on her first tour!) -- which allowed for plenty of participation, discussion and friendly debate. This makes you feel much more involved and engaged than you do on a typical tour. A really interesting experience that's made me keen to check out what else Uncomfortable Oxford has to offer.

I liked that our guide was so friendly and knowledgeable and she would ask us our opinions on how controversial topics had been handled.

I went on the hidden histories tour led by Chlo and had a great time. The tour was well structured, cohesive and Chlo was an engaging and knowledgeable guide. I really enjoyed the discussion aspects of the tour and learnt a lot more about parts of Oxford history I previously knew very little about. I'm looking forward to going on more of the tours in future!

A really great experience, I enjoyed the facts and the way that the tour had discussion elements, we learnt a lot from other participants from around the world and their knowledge and perspectives.

This was a whole unexpected, but wonderful experience. George managed to make us incredibly comfortable talking about the uncomfortable. He invited us to share our thoughts and opinions, and that’s incredible rare from a tour guide. The topics were well delved into and respectfully considered. I’m leaving Oxford with a much fuller picture of it.

Great visit! A must-do for any tourist who wishes to really understand the place. Interactive, pedagogical and full of happiness. Recommended experience.

A revolutionary way to experience a tour of Oxford! Beginning with the medieval town vs gown relationship, the tour challenged our preconceptions about the university and explored dark and difficult aspects of its history in a constructive democratic way. Was great that they included content warnings too. I highly recommend this walking tour!

Uncomfortable Oxford

Hi ! We have tours running every Friday (4:30pm) Saturday (2:00 pm) and Sunday (2:00pm) for the general tour, and we alternate our specialized tours on either 'Oxford and Empire' and 'Uncomfortable Finance' every other Saturday at 11:00am. We also occasionally have tours on Wednesday afternoon. The full schedule is on our website.
We also take private group booking, for more info you can email us directly through the website's contact form ! (we cannot post the link directly on tripadvisor)
