We quite enjoyed the 2023 Christmas Light Trail here, so I booked again for 2024. We visited on the 23rd December and what a mess! We’d only just set off on the walk when all the lights tripped out. The train was plunged into darkness. Never mind, these things happen. So we stood and waited for it all to come back on.
But we waited an age; it never came back on and there wasn’t any emergency lighting provided. Staff didn’t know what was going on and if they did, they wouldn’t update anyone. All the while, big crowds of people were being shoved into the trail, because no one at the door had been given instructions to stop proceedings.
It ended up being a bit hazardous by the Lakeside cafe as more people were forced into the space, while other groups were trying to walk against the crowds to go back to the start or just milling about trying to find someone who knew what was going on. Lots of toddlers and prams, because the demographic is young families. There’s open water in this area too. Unaware of where the lights were supposed to be and unable to find the now totally unlit path, people started walking through the mud and the displays and that probably caused more disruption to the cables.
We gave it over 30 minutes, but there was no update. There was no food or drink at all along the trail because the power cut took out the cafe and stopped all service from the food stands. So the children were bored, cold and hungry. We couldn’t even buy a bottle of water.
A member of staff told us that the power cuts had been a regular occurrence this year and the Lakeside was a notorious blackspot. Given that this wasn’t the first time, you’d think they would have been more prepared. We stumbled through the woods to the main entrance, where we saw an endless stream of families STILL being herded in and a queue to rival that at the customer service desk, with unhappy people demanding refunds.
Waited 20 minutes in the queue and eventually we were told to request a refund online. I paid £200 for our tickets and I’ve emailed them as they asked. I won’t get back the cost of the travel there and back though. And we won’t get back the wasted evening. It’s disappointing for the kids, who were looking forward to this.
Wellington need to revisit their risk assessments. This is dangerous. Why on earth would you not have a backup generator or emergency lighting for a professional event of this size? Where were the communication and the measures to prevent overcrowding? I’m hoping the refunds will be handled swiftly and in a professional manner.

We attended Wellington Illuminova on 23rd December having paid nearly £200 for the privilege. Whilst queuing to enter we were told there had been a SMALL electrical outage and some parts of the Illuminova were not working.
This turned out to be a total lie. Large parts of the park were not working including Neverland, the railway, interactive instruments etc. My grandchildren did not get to see Father Christmas who simply waved at them from the OTHER side of the railway tracks.
When we complained we were told it was not run by the park but an outside company. Funny how we weren't told this when booking
I am.persuing the matter via Trading Standards and would advise others to do likewise!
We will not be returning!

Family of 6 Went to light show on 23/12 . Found train not working. Lakeside cafe and all food and drink stands closed and some lights not working because of electricity problems. So a very expensive £155 walk through woods. Will not go again Windsor show 100% better

We went to the Wellington Illuminova and we all loved it. You were able to walk round at your own pace and there were some interactive displays too. The train was good and the children loved it

Turned up tonight to have a train ride and see the illustrations only to find a pitch black carpark with no one there. Had to drive to get service and call only to be told they have closed it, "Due to high winds" currently no wind whatsoever...
Said they tried to call us but no calls revieved (no missed calls or anything!)
Not even a sign in the carpark!
3 very annoyed adults and 2 crying kids! They have refunded it automatically but no compensation whatsoever ever offered!

Attended 'Neverland Illuminova' at Wellington Country Park. Absolutely awful. Have been the previous 2 years it was here & it has got progressively worse.
Slowly removing all the family & festive elements which made the 1st year fairly enjoyable, to create basically a rave in the woods.
Nothing magical about it, especially considering the rip off prices. Won't be going again

We had an enjoyable time camping, despite the rain. It’s a great destination for children, with plenty of activities to keep them entertained. The park itself was fantastic. However, we feel a few improvements could be made to the camping areas. First, there was no WiFi or phone signal on the two major networks we were using, making it difficult to stay connected. In today’s world, internet access is essential, and it’s uncommon not to have any connection at a campsite. It’s also quite a long walk to the park to get connectivity.
Additionally, it would be great if bikes were allowed, even if limited to the camping areas, walking paths, or a designated bike area, as there’s plenty of space available (not necessarily within the main park). Lastly, given the cost of camping, it would be nice to see an upgrade to the shower facilities.

Love coming here, there’s so much to do. Went Sunday 22nd September 10:00-12:00 and it was so quiet and we were the only ones in the farm the whole time when we were there. It was raining which was why it was so quiet. All the staff were lovely and welcoming. It is very expensive even in the low season.

Had a nice visit with a wheelchair user today with me. But what I was disappointed with was every where you go is card only payment everywhere on site. Fortunately I had a bank card with me .However my wheelchair user only came out with cash as would a lot of her friends she lives with . Had I not had a bank card with me my wheelchair user would have been disappointed and had her day upset . I feel Wellington Country are wrong in making payment card only .Not everyone wants a cashless society. . Just saying keep this in mind when choosing to visit. .

No doubt this park is a beautiful place, but all said and done it is a park with play areas, a splash park, and a mediocre farm. A train you pay extra for and some bumpers cars which you also pay extra for. We did have a lovely Day, but just thought it was expensive... Adults £20 and kids over 2 also £20.... so for my family of 5 adults and 4 kids it was £181.50 with a small cheeky booking fee

We have a vw campervan are we able to use our awning with it or is this classed as two units? Thank you

It’s a guess, but I’d expect it’s okay, the plots are quite big per vehicle.

Would this be suitable for an 11/12 year old? I realise it says up to 8 year olds but is that a strict rule that is enforced or just a guide? I'm sure he'll enjoy it but not if he's not allowed on the play areas.
Thanks

No, most activities are aimed towards children up to 8. There are also signs place around the park that state ‘No children over 10’, for example the play park.
Crazy golf and the animals is about all that you could do with children over 10.
Hope this helps.

Anybody advise if the cafes on site are any good for family lunch? What sort of food do they serve? Thanks
เขียนเมื่อ 5 กันยายน 2018
We took a packed lunch to save money thank god as some said it cost £5 for just 2 ice creams

Hi there, can you let me know in which cafes (Lakeside, Splash etc ) there are the gluten free options within the park.
Thanks,
เขียนเมื่อ 21 มิถุนายน 2017
Hi, I'm sorry, I'm not sure. There is one main cafe that does chips! My friend's daughter is coeliac and that always seems to be her fall back! Another smaller cafe has cold food which is mainly sandwiches but I didn't look at labels.
Sorry I couldn't help more.
