We are not normally fans of the guided tours preferring to find our own way, but having read the review by Steve W we joined Leon Bracelin's Archaeological tour and have to say that it was inspirational. The Castle in its own right is magnificent but Leon brought it to life and made the experience truly memorable.

Overall a very interesting site with plenty of information to guide your visit. The castle is a ruin which has been restored.

Travelling home from Herefordshire to Cheshire, we wanted something to do, so thought we would try Ludlow Castle.
So glad we did. Very reasonable entrance fee and so much to see. Lots of areas to explore, highlights being able to climb the keep and other towers (probably not if you don't like spiral stairs or heights!).
There is a small carpark but not sure where else you can park in town.
Had lunch in the cafe, bit pricey but lovely staff and food.

Lovely visit here. Such a well kempt castle and grounds. Interesting history with nearly all of the castle accessible. Great to see a dog friendly castle for a change.
Entrance to the castle is reasonable. I don’t think the majority of us realise how much the upkeep costs for places like this must be.
We ate outside in the sunshine and enjoyed the food. It was all very tasty albeit a little overpriced. Great shop, all the bits and bobs you would want from a spicier shop.
All in all a lovely visit.

Really enjoyed. Castle is well preserved and gives a real feeling of history. If you enjoy castles, you will enjoy Ludlow.

Spent an hour walking around the ruins , some spiral steps to get to the top , but well worth the view ,
Price was reasonable to get in , plenty of grassed area around the castle to sit , great for family’s with children to run around , people very friendly in this area .

We had a lovely weekend in Ludlow and had a great time at the Castle. We had a lovely walk around the castle and enjoyed going up to the top to see the view, which was amazing. We would definitely visit again. The entrance fee was cheap and it was good that once you had your ticket, you could leave and come back in the same day, if you chose to.

We had a lovely day in Ludlow and really enjoyed our visit to the castle. Very good value for money we enjoyed exploring the towers and our Cockapoo loved being able to be with us on our visit. We had the most wonderful lunch at Chapter66 restaurant and highly recommend a visit if going to the castle.

Impressive for its position with the town fanning out around it, and for the age of many of the buildings. Although more ruins than complete buildings, there's a lot to see and enough has survived to give you a real picture of what it must have been like in the day.
But you do have to use your imagination... it would really benefit from the kind of "this is what it would have looked like" pictures in each area that Stokesay, just down the road, does so well.
I'd also say you have to be happy going up and down narrow medieval spiral staircases to get the most from your visit.
Well worth a visit though.

Where is the nearest parking for disabled?

We have a parking space available for disabled parking in our private car park. We would require sight of or a copy of your parking badge at the Shop
This parking is not available during festivals as the roads are closed and the space is used for the on-site Ambulance

There are several car parks around Ludlow, long and short stay. They are all within 10 minutes walk of the castle which in itself is a treat through Ludlow's medieval streets.

Will the castle be open for casual visitors on Saturday June 10th? I notice there is some sort of event on that day, but we just want to explore the castle.

Hi, thank you for your enquiry. The Castle is open to the public from 10.00am to 5.00pm on Saturday 10th June.
The Event is in the function rooms of Castle House which is totally separate

Thank you for your feedback. We are currently working with the Mortimer History Society on content for more informative interpretation boards and leaflets/handouts that bring in a human element as well as the history of the buildings that will also contribute to school key stages requirements so over the next few years there will be more information on both. Watch this space...

Dogs are very welcome in the Castle and Courtyard of the Tea Rooms as long as they are kept on a lead at all times. We love our 4 legged friends. We also have 1 apartment Sir Henry Sidney that welcomes dogs, so if ever you want a holiday with your dog you know where to come.

Thank you for your feedback. The weeds are a problem, but the wild flowers that we have growing in the mortar are not going to damage the walls. Every few years we pay a team of specialist abseiling gardeners to get rid of them, as you can imagine its not cheap but great to watch. We get rid of as many as we can within reach of hand and sprayer.
The photos are taken before spring/summer so are without the foliage.
