Work was going on inside so could not get in. The outside is quite beautful. a blend of Tudor and Elizabetan styles. It's next to the Market and Castle so have a look.

We were hoping to visit Castle Lodge having read about it prior to our visit to Ludlow.
Just adjacent to the entrance of the castle it sits adjacent and abutting to the Castle Buttery.
Although closed to the public (hopefully temporary) it’s an astounding piece of history and architecture that deserves at least a few minutes admiring its splendour!

As already stated, but just to confirm, in Sept 2018 we were informed that there is a new owner and the building is not open to view at all.
I too was looking forward to seeing inside, but the exterior is pretty impressive, so have given a 2-star for that. Let's hope it can be maintained and perhaps opened occasionally.

Just to confirm Castle Lodge is closed for renovation and refurbishment. It's quite a big project so we can't give any dates yet as to when it will be finished, but we'll update this page once we have a bit more of an idea. It's certainly our intention (subject to the various consents required) to re-open for some form of public use, which we hope will be in 2019.

We were so looking forward to visiting Castle Lodge, sadly it is closed with a hand written sign saying “private”. Spoke to a local who said it had been sold and has know idea who has bought it. I hope it will have some restoration work done and be reopened by whoever has now bought it. Gutted as looks amazing from the outside :(

My better half had this little gem on the "to do" list, a private dwelling which an elderly gentlemen still calls home. Castle Lodge at Ludlow is a medieval Tudor house, which is supposedly haunted by the spirit of Catherine of Aragon. She and her first husband Prince Arthur lived there, reportedly this was the happiest time of her life. Lady Jane Grey and Mary Tudor also spent time living at this lodge.You basically have to knock on the large wooden front door and pay a small fee of 3 pounds per person for access. It is just like stepping into a time capsule, the wood wall paneling and stained glass windows are a highlight along with the paintings of the famous people of these times. Walking on the creaky wooden floorboards was a bit unnerving and we were told all the entrance fees are used to maintain this property. It is a wonderful old unique dwelling which needs to be heritage listed or funded to preserve a precious piece of English history. Well worth the visit.

This house is magnificent and, as others have stated, is well worth the £3 entrance fee especially for anyone interested in history. It's a one off experience to see how the Tudors and Elizabethans lived which will quite surprise you as it sure did me! Downside - virtually no furniture in any of the rooms which is a great shame but don't let this put you off. It actually looks as if someone has just moved out where and time has stood still. If your visiting Ludlow don't miss this attraction - it's right beside the castle and market place.

This one is a must visit. The wood panelling and build of this wonderful old building should not be missed. They filmed Nell Gwen there and the rickety old 4 stories are truly worth the £3 entry charge which all goes into restoration.

I’ve given this four stars because it’s nothing like any other Tudor home I’ve visited. I can see some people might not get why I enjoyed it so much.
The house belongs to a senior gentleman who lets you wander round this former home of Katherine of Aragon and Prince Arthur oldest son of Henry Vll. Arthur died young and Katherine went on to become the wife of his brother Henry vlll.
You have to knock on the door and if the owner is in he will take your £3 and let you in. After a bit of a chat in which I inquired about his failing health and discussed how expensive the house is to run I wondered round the empty rooms which had amazing wood panelling and stained glass windows. The house will fall down if nothing is done to save it . This would be a crime. I can’t understand why some worthy body has not stepped in to save this extremely historic building.
Don’t expect guidebooks or a gift shop . Just enjoy the building and it’s owner.

This is a real find and a must-see, especially in sunshine/shower April. Open 7 days a week and privately owned, the elderly, possible viewed as eccentric, proprietor answers when you ring the bell: he lives in the house too! Other reviewers say it was dusty but the owner gentleman is elderly and appears to live alone after the death of his wife. The upkeep of the house is down to him and one suspects the house will cease to be when the owner is no longer with us.

The gentleman who owns the house lives in it and it is open 7 days a week - you ring the bell to gain entry (entry fee £3). If it is closed, i.e no reply, he may be out or not well, so try again as it is worth seeing. I would not go before 9:00 am.

How do we go about getting English Heritage interested in this property? It's obviously too much for Mr Pearson now he is getting on in years and needs more money to maintain it and bring it back to lif.

As a poster stated elsewhere, there is a new owner (summer 2018) and the property is no longer open to view. The building must be listed so has some protection, although not the same as providing the money to maintain it!
