I was pleasantly surprised when i visited this Tudor house. It is much bigger than it looks & is full of history. It is open Tuesday to Saturday 10-4pm. Assistance dogs only.

This was a real highlight of our holiday. Lots of really interesting things to see. We'll definitely go back again.

There are modern museums with items well laid out and explained with a strong educational purpose. Then there are museums stuffed full of artefacts laid out as their owners left them, stuffed birds and animals, and endless showcases with the names of their contents in Latin. This museum is somewhere between the two, and is clearly in the process of modernising itself. The end product is something for everyone, although you may find yourself skipping the bits you don't like!

We loved this museum, it's a joy. In a very beautiful building on the Cathedral Green with gorgeous views of the Cathedral, there are lots of rooms to explore on two floors. We saw a wonderful exhibition of the changing face of shops in this tiny city, and another, very moving, on life in the First World War trenches, and YOU are one of the soldiers. Very memorable. Beautiful displays on local natural history and geology , original medieval statues from the Cathedral to be seen very close up, not high up on the Cathedral's West Front, and all sorts of other things to enjoy - samplers, archeological finds, lovely old glasses, an adorable dollshouse with tiny mice, there's something for everyone. My husband could have stayed hours in the Library enjoying the wonderful books. A very special museum, we look forward to our next visit. Do note it's only open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am - 4 pm.

For me I found this museum needs a bit of an overhaul. There were empty rooms and not all of them were clearly defined. There was a photographic exhibition of Wells town which I found the most interesting, comparing the old shops to the shops of today. The other exhibits I found a bit random, with either stones or bones in display cases and lots to read. For £4 I think the price was a bit steep as we didn’t spend more than half an hour in there.

Great little museum that is close to the cathedral and shopping areas and cafes near by
Open Tuesday to Saturday 10.00 to 16.00 (closed Sunday and Monday)
Not necessarily those on the website
Entrance fee £4 - spent about an hour there
Staff explained what was in all the rooms and were informative and a leaflet to let you know what was where!!
Worth a visit but is small

With the special display of the Wells Hospital and asylum coming to an end, a visit was made for the very first time. Very well worth it, good one way system and a very worthwhile place to look through some loacl History for a couple of hours

There was lots to like about this museum. Many exhibits were very interesting but for me the room dedicated to the asylum was fascinating. To learn about former patients was heartbreaking. I also loved the room where you could read about former residents of Wells. The curator of the museum was not very well informed, however, as my husband asked simple questions that he could not answer.

Charming, well kept, interesting and free museum. Lots of history about Wells and the surrounding area. A lovely memorial outside in remembrance of Harry Patch, the longest surviving soldier from the Great War.
