took ages for horrible food, they gave me bread that i was allergic to and jimmy was huffing and puffing and he added stuff to our bill. the atmosphere disgusting. worst place ever with rude manager, who’s rude to staff and workers. the service was absolutely crap, vile even. it took 2 hours for our food to come out and it was freezing cold.

So I frequent many a pub but this has to be the worst as landlords are concerned. The food is lovely thanks to the chef but the owner is one of the rudest, most judgemental, misogynistic and AWFUL people I have ever met. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE and put this man out of business. There’s a far friendlier pub round the corner. The chef and the bar staff are the only people keeping that place a float. I wish no luck and zero success for Jimmy.

Happened to be passing through Elmswell and noticed the Fox pub with Thai food and decided to stop. A board outside announced a welcome from Jimmy and Nan, so we ventured in to try it. First impressions: nice looking pub, also has a sports bar (pool etc), and looked clean. Our first contact with Jimmy was a bit wierd as he didn't really want to engage and was very vague when we checked on whether the food we chose was vegetarian. Anyway, due to a customer that was just leaving recommending the food, we decided to eat there. It was 1:45 pm and they stopped serving after 2pm.
We chose the Vegetarian Thai set menu for 2 which consisted of a starter, main course, banana fritter for dessert, followed by coffee and mints. Cost about £16. Looked good value.
When the food arrived it was excellent - the best Thai food outside of Thailand that I have tasted, served up by the Thai chef, Nan.
Anyway, after a lovely starter and main course, we were looking forward to the banana fritter, but we got an ice-cream dessert instead. On enquiry, Jimmy said it was a banana fritter! We politely said it didn't look like one as it was just ice cream and he said it was banana Thai ice cream (which it wasn't) and it's called a fritter!
Shades of Basil Fawlty were now emerging as he then told us to leave as he had to pick his child up from school! We said what about the coffee and mints, which he replied that he had no time for that and that most people don't bother with the coffee anyway! We were stunned, so he quickly took the money off us for the food (he let us off the drinks) and ushered us out the pub.
Obviously, due to his manner, we have serious doubts to his claim that the food was truly vegetarian, as many restaurants use curry paste containing shrimps (but don't often admit it). Also during the meal we could hear him talking behind the bar and his language was inappropriate, to say the least!
So, great food (we think!), but Jimmy, as host, you'd make a good bouncer!

Wonderful food, but lots don't eat anything first. Recommend Sunday lunch. Gets busy so best to book first. Best beer too.

Coming from the city we struggled to get food after 6pm not realising everyone stops serving early on a sunday, but despite stop serving food The Fox offered us food which was extremely nice, good service and very nice people

The meal itself was ok, albeit the chicken we ordered was smothered in lemon and herb sauce which I had specifically ordered without any sauce, this was quickly rectified with a replacement meal. My issue was on going to the bar to pay for our meal I waited whilst they wrote out the bill. I asked for a vat receipt and with that he huffed and puffed and entered our food on the till. I was then given a unitemised bill. When I looked at the bill there was still no vat number on it. I again approached the bar and spoke to the same man and stated that the bill did not have a vat number. He then continued to tell me that I was a nuisance on more than one occasion asking why would I want to claim vat back on a meal whilst fumbling around under dozens of hand written receipts until he eventually found a legit bill with a vat number on which he then wrote onto the top of my bill. I found this very unprofessional and to be made and told that you are a nuisance by just asking for something that should be standard. Won't be returning. Good luck when you get a vat inspection!!!!

The service was a little bit slow at times but the food was great and reasonably priced. It's a nice change from typical pub food.

A local pub that has been turned into a Thai Restaurant with a bar (and pool room).
We've been several times (and even had a take out) and we can't fault the Thai food, and as it's made by the landlord's Thai wife we are not surprised it's great.
Not a great venue for a restaurant, considering it used to be a pub, and still has a bar very near the tables but as long as you aren't after a quiet or romantic meal it's fine.
Parking is limited, but there is a child friendly outdoor area which is ideal for summer lunchtimes and evenings.
We've been several times (and even had a take out) and we can't fault the Thai food, and as it's made by the landlord's Thai wife we are not surprised it's great.

This pub advertises English pub food as well as Thai food but in fact the publican is very reluctant to offer the English menu. The food was okay but rather over priced

We have just got back from The Fox after hearing from some relatives that it was very good. Having only had Thai a handful of times we were keen to try somewhere new. The decor is lovely and modern, tasteful also. We found the food to be very tasty and there was plenty of it. I would really recommend the Yellow Thai Curry and the Pad Thai. I did find the Duck in our Stir Fry a little fatty but that is to be expected with Duck.
Sadly the service wasn't great. There were only two staff manning the floor and they seemed to become very slow when more diners entered. It took ages for the waitress to take our dessert order, bring the bill and for someone to bring along a card machine. The man, who I assume is the Manager seemed quite capable and was hurrying along the others.
All in all a nice meal and evening but will stick to Baitong, as it is closer and just as good.
