Amazing collection in a great purpose built building but starting to look a little tired. Quite a few lights not working, so some displays hard to see. Some display panels faded / blurred. Information sometimes frustratingly lacking. Eg. Display headed “the Gatling Principal” several Gatling guns displayed and described but nothing to tell you what the Gatling principal is. Some floor panels obviously coming loose and covered with striped tape. Service in the cafe was very poor. Stood at counter as next customer. 3 staff busy sorting previous drinks orders. Stood about 5 mins, not one made eye contact or said anything like “hello, I will be with you in a minute” felt like we were invisible. We eventually walked out and got a coffee and lunch elsewhere. The museum is definitely worth a visit regardless of the above points

Huge, lots to see but the best part was the talks (wild west guns and pattern welding) and performances of various types of sword fighting. Kept us well entertained 😊 we walked from the station and caught the lovely water taxi back, lunch was at pizza express just across from the museum entrance.

Fantastic place for a day out. If you have any interest at all in military history, then you will not be disappointed. Entrance is free and it’s easy to get to. My daughter has no interest in anything other than her iPad but even she loved it!

Impressive displays from all eras of Britain and the wider world. We particularly enjoyed the Japan-themed area, the giant elephant, the movie props, and all of the suits of armour.
Cons: pressured by the staff to donate upon entry - the lady at the door asked us if we "had a ticket" (umm, it's a free museum?) and when we said no, we were instructed to go to a kiosk where they were selling guide books and taking donations. Also, the display videos are all Standard Definition (like 480p at best) with no HD or upscaled videos in sight.

I was pleasantly surprised by this museum. Loaded with history of arms and warfare from the antiquity to WWII. If you have a favorite time period or country this museum has something that will interest you. There were Japanese archery kits, Spanish armour, horse armor and even an elephant in battle gear, rapiers, early harquebuses, futuristic movie weapons too. Being a family attraction they had live demos of sword play giving the chance for the kids to engage. The youngsters might lose interest quickly, but for history nerds or anyone into chivalry or weaponry, this is a cool place.

Nice day out. Good displays. Pity my wife was faced with Male, Unisex toilets, no separate Female toilet. Felt degraded that has a female she was being forced to share the toilet with any gender. Walk out and used toilets at bus station.

Excellent museum we spent a good 4 hours looking around. I found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. You can even take a picnic in there, however the cafes are very good.
Lots to see and I don’t think we looked at everything it has to offer
We did the jousting the day we went that again was an excellent show.

From the second we walked in and were greeted by young and enthusiastic staff we knew we were in for a treat. The spiral staircase is unforgettable and the exhibitions were fascinating. My particular favourite was the Oriental gallery but every pace you take within the walls of this museum reveals interest and well displayed objects. War is of course ugly and this isn't disguised but it is treated respectfully. Allow yourself time here. 3 hours would be a minimum to enjoy it and take in one of the shows. The horsemanship was superb at the show we enjoyed,
Oh and it's free. Remarkable, really.

What a fantastic museum, the staff are so friendly. The gift shop has to be the best museum gift shop in all of Great Britain. Entry is free, I say again FREE. Well done Royal Armouries Museum, you are the best.

Just finished the fun Raid Escape Room in The Armouries (led by Sophie) and it was wicked!! Really fun to do and not overly complicated, great to do as a family!

We went to Leeds on a Thursday in Feb and they were running. You can get it from just outside Leeds train station and it takes you right outside the Royal Armouries Museum. The river taxis run every 15 mins and they are £1 per person. It is about a 12 min journey. Well worth it. We loved these.

Yes the Royal Armouries is free to visit and open 7 days a week fromm 10am - 5pm (closed 24th, 25th, 26th December).
Is this suitable for a 6year lad?
