I have been to thackray a lot as a child and always thoroughly enjoyed it. I must say I was rather disappointed this visit. I love the disease street area as it’s really immersive but then realised the part with the amputation had changed. From then on there was a lot of displays to look at and signs to read, and then kids areas to draw in but nothing was interactive anymore. I remember vividly the area downstairs which was following a pea around the human body and out the other end, the area with a huge mouth and taught you about teeth, the area where there were mannequins of burns victims and pregnant women etc. I know covid has had a lot to do with change but it is definitely not the museum it was. My boyfriend who has never been before enjoyed it but for me knowing what it once was I was disappointed

Myself and my husband visited the museum today. There is a large car park but we choose to park in the local estate. Entrance fee was £12 and the pass lasts a year. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. There were a number of different areas including disease street, public health, socio-medical and infectious diseases to name but a few. I disagree with the below review that says the information is 'dummed down', it's accessible to all ages and should you want further information staff/volunteers are happy to help. I agree the exhibits don't go into finite technical detail, but then I suspect a minimal percentage of people would want that! There's lots of great exhibits to put information into context. All staff and volunteers we encountered were very friendly and chatty. We also ate in the cafe, which we felt was excellent value for money. Great way to spend a few hours.

As someone who’s been visiting for around 20 years I think the museum has lost its character! The interior has no “feel” to it and the only thing to really see are medical instruments. There’s so much potential that could be done with this space & it used to be a favourite place for me to visit but I will not be returning. I would have thought as a medical museum there would be a display of specimens & other interesting artefacts but there is nothing. After walking around it leaves you feeling deflated. The gift shop doesn’t seem to have anything to offer that’s not aimed at kids, it’s all gimmick tat. It needs a massive rethink and input of fresh ideas

Extremely informative, kids loved it and had lots of questions to ask, it definitely piqued their interests. Had Easter crafts on which the kids really enjoyed. Staff were lovely and helpful and very engaging.

I used to visit this museum frequently before its 'improvements' - the parking used to be free for visitors, now there are charges, the entry fee of £11:95 for an adult might be worthwhile - but on entry, I found that the entire place had, to me, been 'dumbed down', the remnants of the 1800's Street was still there but reduced, still loving the apothecary jar collection and enjoyed the menstruation exhibition, but there just seems to be a lack of truly informative collections that were there before. Very child-orientated, so perhaps OK if you want to keep the kids quiet, and If you've never been before, you might enjoy it, but it is quite an achievement to spend so much money and come out with much less than previously achieved. Such a shame, I had greater expectations than this.

Our 9 year old daughter is currently very interested in history so I took her yesterday to the museum. It was expensive even though I am disabled and she is a young carer, yea the ticket is valid 12months but we were finished Disease Street within 45 minutes and that included her reading to mw the signs as I couldnt as blind.
It would have been beneficial perhaps to have people in period dress available in character whom could answer quwstions, the audio recordings were very low volume and spoken quick making it difficult to follow and hear.
The period exhibition was interesting to us both.
The cafe was a total disappointment, no allergen signage on items, cakes wrapped in more clingfilm than a grandparent uses on a birthday gift, tastless and dry cake and what appears to be a vast selection isnt when the rude abrupt and foul smelling cafe staff member shouted “no run out, not got that one either”
Sandwhiches looked dry and like my toddler had assembled them, fruit shoots over priced as was Cadburys chocolate the only saving grace was abag of mediocre crisps.
Disability wise staff made zero effort to be inclusive at any point of our visit. Nor acknowledge us.
The soft play we checked out for my toddler it is not a soft play but a room that had clearly been neglected with a few activities shoved in which someone thought would bring in additional cash, time limit on duration spent in their seemed weird as did staff just walking back n forth ignoring families with zero interaction
Yes we may visit again but will bring our own food and drink

Been here twice in the past and was always a great day out. Since being updated we found there was much less to see and finished the tour slot quicker. It seemed expensive in comparison and not as good value. The cafe service was very slow and again quite expensive - it would have cost 5 of us over £50 for sandwich and chips/drink.We left as there was nobody free to take our order after waiting in line for quite a while

Visited with my 12 year old daughter. We have been before, but a few years ago. We found the museum to have improved since our last visit. Enjoyed the victorian Leeds streets and learning about what happened to our character. There was plenty to see and do. We paid £18 for the 2 of us, for a year ticket, which was good value. We spent 2 hours and 45 mins in total bit did get lunchbin this time. Food choices were limited but what we had was tasty and good value. Parking was right outside and £1 per hour. There were things for all ages and we will return later in the year

It is way overpriced.
It was our first visit for over ten years and although we expected change it was for the worse. The whole experience was disappointing. Writing messages on drops of paper blood in the menstruation area. Messages on the wall from customers telling everyone to get vaccinated ( with some humorous replies )
No mention of the damage masks made on the Spanish flu video. Even references to BLM .
Not good

Interesting afternoon at Thackray Museum of Medicine, really enjoyed ‘Disease Street’, can’t beat authentic Victorian smells 🤣. Such a huge collection of medical things old and new and some thought provoking (and funny) stuff.
Bit of a shame the café had run out of anything other than cheese based meals (cheese toasties, cheese sandwiches, cheesy chips) and bacon sandwiches but the blow was softened by 15% off with my BlueLightCard.
The man serving in the café (28/12/21) despite being busy was super friendly and helpful. I don’t think the price was too bad, as whilst the 3 younger children went free and we paid £35 for 2 adults and 2 children, so worked out at £5 per person so this seemed reasonable to me, though obviously there wasn’t an awful lot for the younger ones to do (but that isn’t a criticism but it’s hard to find an activity indoors that balances school aged kids and pre-school children/toddlers)
We aren’t local so unlikely to visit again but I think it’a definitely worth the money if you are local and need somewhere to pass an afternoon
