We had a wonderful day.The car park is excellent and the train is lovely. The staton looks really smart and the facilities are very good. The journey down the valley is beautiful The staff were really pleasant and helpful

We travelled in an enclosed carriage on the upward journey, and in the open one on the return trip (thus avoiding the steam) so experienced both options - and both were great (the weather being fine and dry). The views were stunning, and we met some interesting, friendly people. We used the hour between trips to do a short walk and have a good cup of coffee in the outdoor cafe, and there is a nice gift shop at the top station. If you are a walker, then you can return on a later train (or, obviously, make your own plans) and it is a beautiful area to explore. It is not a cheap trip - but worth it, and impressive that it is maintained and run through enthusiasm and dedication.

The journey from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge was amazing as you simply got to see the beautiful coast and countryside.
The Vale of Rheidol Railway did an amazing job in keeping it well maintained and they looked after it very well. Keep up the good work that you are currently doing. This attracts visitors from all over the world who come to do this.
We loved going on a steam train as the best part in the entire journey was hearing the whistle of the train go off all the time.
I would highly recommend this to people who really love steam trains so much as is a special treat for them.
The Vale of Rheidol Railway did an amazing job in keeping it well maintained and they looked after it very well. Keep up the good work that you are currently doing. This attracts visitors from all over the world who come to do this.

Lovely train ride through valleys and hills up to Devil’s Bridge. We had good weather, so that was an added bonus.
We did pay extra for first class since we are not seasoned travelers with trains and didn’t know what to expect. We had the “observation” area all to ourselves and the seats were exceptionally comfortable. But this was early May and not deep into the season. I bet the train is packed then. But I’m not sure paying extra for first class is absolutely necessary.
No food is served onboard.
You won’t have time to walk down to the Falls. That’s a difficult and long walk down/then back up serious steps. But you will have plenty of time to see Devil’s Bridge. There’s also a little chocolate shop right across from the train station. Save a few minutes after your walk to have a look. Prices are reasonable for the homemade candies/fudge.

But the highlight of our train ride was Batty! Batty is the Guard. His duty is to get off the train at some crossings and flag down/stop the cars so the train can pass. Then he literally jumps back on the train. Batty is a character. He’s full of life and eagerly answers any questions you have about the train, history, etc. In fact I’d say there’s little he can’t answer correctly about this train operation. Such a warm, fun, personable man who takes his job very seriously.

My husband loves old trains and we have done quite a few different trips on steam trains. I had not heard of this one and due to ongoing illness, decided to go 1st class, for comfort. The fist class coach is beautifully decorated with hand painted birds on the ceiling and the furnishings are very plush. The chairs are very comfortable, although anyone on the large side may struggle as the seats are snug. For a woman I would suggest anything above size 18/20 and it is a squeeze.
There are also carriages inside with comfortable bench seating and an open carriage with wooden seating ( no good for me as that would have been a painful trip. The journey lasts about an hour and although there are no toilets onboard, there are toilets at Aberystwyth and devils bridge.
The journey itself was such a surprise to me, I had no idea how beautiful the scenery was going to be as you get closer towards your destination. The views were amazing!
I believe this is now the most scenic steam train journey I have ever taken and it so calming and nostalgic. The guard was very friendly and the cafe at devils bridge, did lovely coffee and snacks ( two hoots)
I struggle to walk very far so was unable to go on the bridge/falls walk, but will hopefully get to go back on a good day when I have more ability. Left hand side had the best views and there was free car parking at Aberystwyth vale station
Overall I would recommend that if you can you must go on this trip if you are nearby and they need as many donations as possible too as it is a non profit organisation I believe, with any money made , used for the benefit and daily upkeep of the railway.
All the staff were very friendly from the ticket office, guard , driver, cafe staff, you are a credit , thank you for a lovely day

The return journey takes three hours, one hour up to Devil's Bridge, one hour there for a visit to the bridges (not enough time for the waterfalls) and/or refreshments, one hour back. You can travel in a closed carriage or in the open-sided one (but if you have come on a coach trip, your reserved compartment is enclosed). There are views of the level valley close to Aberystwyth, and then the track climbs through woodland on the valley side. Look out for red kites.

Visited Devils Bridge stayed at Herfod hotel and at Last went on a steam train. This journey was one of the most picturesque journeys ice have ever undertaken ideal time of day as Hawks were out hunting over the steep valley as we descended to Aberystwyth.
What a journey well worth the wait Go On treat yourself. The train Guard was a funny and welcoming chap Rob i think. Had to remind him how lucky he was working on this railway. The pictures don't do it justice.

I last journeyed on the Vale of Rheidol when it was in British Rail hands and it is vastly improved. The intermediate stations are very well cared for and you can use them to be picked up or if you speak to the engine driver you can be dropped off. One of the stations is ideal for pine marten sitings. The Aberystwyth end is undergoing rapid improvements and changes. At Devils Bridge a nice little cafe is present and an excellent Vincent Trust centre with details of Pine Marten conservation. The journey is superb and even quite scary as you are very close to a vertical drop for some distance. A particular highlight was the large number of Red Kites. It's a good length of journey with an hour or so at the terminus.

We decided to splash out and take first class as a special treat. This for the two of us was £90.
It’s started fine brilliant viewing and only another couple with us in the cabin.
Scenery wise most blocked with the trees, a couple of breathtaking views but at most heavily tree lined and farm land.
Once arrived at devils bridge we decided not to go on the walks as we had done these previously plus having paid the extra for first class you only have the choice of coming back on the next train. So we had an hour decided to have some lunch but again others that were having lunch then doing the walk resulting in huge queues so much so I was counting the minutes down trying to eat lunch as fast as I could as prices are high here. Far from an enjoyable break.
Then topping it off two people who had been chatting with the train staff on our hour stop who had been in the other carriage on way here ended up in first class seating for the return journey and taking up the best seats?? Not sure if you can pay extra to suddenly change on the way back of which they certainly never would not mind but having spent close to £100 for this service felt extremely disappointed that this was ok for them to do as there was space and they got on well with staff and from college.
Glad I completed it would I return no. One of the best things throughout which sums it up well was

Hi we paid £55 for two return tickets in an open carriage. The journey each way is 1 hour 5 mins.

There are no daily price lists on the website only annual. I tried to book online and it wouldn't let me book for the same day. Please could you tell me how much is an adult ticket and child please

The fares are displayed on the website, see the table on the right hand side of the page. If you are looking to travel today, you would need to purchase tickets from the booking office as online bookings will have closed. You can only book online for future dates.
In 2019, an adult ticket costs £23, or £25.30 if Gift Aided. A child ticket costs £10, or £11 if Gift Aided.

Don’t worry if you can’t print your tickets , It’s fine to show proof on your phone. All you’ll need to do is say your name at the counter and the booking clerk will issue you with your ticket.

Yes it is. The railway is working on a programme of accessibility improvements at present, currently every train is booked to include a wheelchair accessible carrriage - further carriages will be introduced late 2019/2020.
