“Lovely Abbey in a valley”

Abbey อยู่ในหุบเขาพร้อมที่ตั้งแคมป์ วัดมีขนาดค่อนข้างใหญ่และมีบ่อปลาดั้งเดิมอยู่ด้านหลัง คุณสามารถขึ้นบันไดไปยังหอพักพระสงฆ์ซึ่งมีฝาหินแกะสลักที่สวยงาม ออกนอกเส้นทางที่ถูกโจมตี แต่คุ้มค่ากับทางอ้อม วัดที่สวยงาม

Lovely Abbey in a valley

The Abbey is in a valley with a campsite attached. The Abbey is quite large and has it's original fish pond to the rear. You can climb the stairs to the monks dormitory, where there are lovely carved grave stone lids. Off the beaten track but worth the detour. A magnificent Abbey.

Very interesting place full of history, some parts very well preserved, its not just a ruin. Took a tour with a guide who was very informative and funny. Would recommend

Although it is now a ruin, large parts of the original structure still survive. It had some very interesting features. Foundations were remaining for most rooms. It had an almost complete Reredorter (monks dormitory) showing where the night stairs were and the day stairs. The Chapter House was covered and in very nice shape. We were able to explore all parts, including the upper floor of the reredorter. It took its name from the Pillar of Eliseg, (so Valley of the Cross) which was built in the 8th century. We had a nice lunch in the café there.

Nice example of a medieval abbey - pity about the campsite

Described as Wales' answer to Fountain Abbey in Northumberland - (or so I'm told). Valle Crucis Abbey is as practically all medieval abbey's in the Britain - a ruin. That said, although nowhere near the same scale as Fountains. That said, it is a nice example of a Cistercian abbey with a few nook and crannies to explore. The staff were very friendly and being an English Heritage member entrance was free.

The down side was that there is no dedicated car park. Visitors have a small strip of kerb, with room for approx 4-5 cars next to the campsite. Also, although it isn't mentioned or shown in any of the promotional photos etc, the site is slap in the middle of a huge campsite. So, what should be a nice peaceful ambience is shattered by the screams of kids from the site.

Worth a visit if you're passing or as part of a tour, but don't make a special trip just for this site.

Paid £4.50 to walk around it that took about 20 minutes. We were staying on the site and still have to pay full price. Was nice to to walk around but not really much to see and not alot of information/history around. Could not go in tot he little house by the river due to covid and distancing but there was only me and my partner and another couple there. There was more people in the actual shop than on the grounds.

Diificult to rate

Located next to a very large caravan and static caravan park, is not what one expects when visiting such an important location. This feature detracts greatly from the required and expected 'aura' of the building and its purpose.
We arrived a few minutes before the site was closed for a one-hour lunch break and were unable to gain access.

Outstanding Open Doors Event

A brilliant free day out to this outstanding location at the foot of the Horseshoe Pass. Staff were extremely friendly and informative. Parking could be improved as there is a busy holiday park thoroughfare and it does get congested.

The abbey is brilliant and oozes history. It has the distinction of being the last monastic abbey built in Wales.

Quite times in an ancient place

Booked on line as advised. Went on bank holiday Monday and the site was still very quite..the staff are very friendly and the guidebook informative. The Abbey is mainly a ruin but it and the grounds are really well looked after. Had a great hour there and will go back for more as we are members of cadw

This was a real gem. The Abbey was situated on the campsite we stayed at and we decided to look around. The ruins are beautiful and the are wonderful views beyond every wall and though every window. We were thrilled it was so intact inside and it was great exploring the rooms inside. What a great place!

Beautiful ruins

Surprisingly Spent 90 minutes here. Somewhat intact ruins of an Abbey that would have been magnificent before it’s destruction. There is parking at the Abbey, we paid £8 for 2 adults-well worth it.
