Very interactive with lots of short films about the historic events and the city. The tower is not originally tower, but fits into that corner by the walls. Worth the visit.

Very fascinating history of Derry from its beginning up to modern day. The staff were very nice and let us in with our derry pass because we were given the wrong closing time. Would visit again!

Really cool place that gives you a thorough info about the history of Derry without overwhelming you with facts.
Nice and welcoming staff as well! A hands-on space for kids as well. A nice view of the city from the tower. Definitely a must when visiting Derry!
A city hall is right opposite and it's well worth stepping in there as well to see beautiful stained glass windows.

We visited this museum while on a trip to Derry. It’s very appealing looking from the outside with its tower. It’s just inside the wall, near the Guildhall. There’s great views of the city from the roof. There’s an excellent exhibition on the Spanish Armada. My children really enjoyed the kids’ areas - planning a town, building bridges and dressing up.

Beautifully organized museum that tells the story of Derry/Londonderry and surrounding region comprehensively through exhibits, videos, and other media. We only went because it was raining and windy outside, and ended up spending almost two, fascinating hours. One of our favorite stops of a two-week NI trip.

We visited this purpose-built Museum after walking around the walls of Derry. There is an entrance charge, but it is reasonable and very good value.
It contains a well curated and very detailed exhibition of the history of Derry. We enjoyed it very much to the extent that we ran out of time and were unable to see the Armada exhibition on the top floor.

There are very few artifacts here. It is basically a set of placards that try to tell the story of the city, but even here it is poorly done: they don’t explain well the terms they use, nor who the actors are or their motivations. Add to this that some of the videos were broken and—it doesn’t matter how cheap the ticket is—you should give it a pass

What a fantastic museum! We thought we'd spend about an hour here and ended up spending 3. This museum is full of the history of Derry, and more broadly, the history of Northern Ireland. I found it very compelling and I learned a lot. The museum staff were exceptional. The gentleman took quite a bit of time to explain some interesting facts about Derry and was happy to answer all of our questions. He was a most pleasant fellow. The woman who took care of our purchase was very friendly as well.
The museum did an excellent job of explaining the Plantation. There were many displays that came on when a sensor knew people were in the room. I think there is enough here for both kids (especially the very early history of the area) and adults (provided you like museums) to keep the family happy for several hours.
The cost is extremely reasonable, the museum well done, and the staff helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly.

how long does it take to walk around the whole tower museum?

We started at the top and worked our way slowly down. We were there for at least three Hours it was a great way to spend an afternoon
I visited the Tower museum in 2010. I believe I saw that a John Weir was one of the first 2 Presbyterian clergymen to be sent to America. Am I correct? What year was that? Do you know where he settled? I believe he is an ancestor of mine.

Hi Judy regarding your question regarding Presbyterianism. The following is my understanding of the matter The first one to take Presbyterianism to the USA I believe was in fact a Rev McKimbsey/McKimsley in the 1750s. He was from the town of Ramelton in Co Donegal. John weir was the first to bring it to Ireland. The religion I understand to have originated in of all places Geneva under a Rev Calvin although I have no date for that. Perhaps this may be of some use in helping you further you enquiry.
