Pat gave us an absolutely wonderful tour of the city today! All the highlights (including some Derry Girl references) and the necessary history to give meaning.

While visiting Belfast last week I decided quite last minute I wanted to see Derry too while in Northern Ireland. I wanted to do an official tour as I had never been to Derry before and the only one I could find taking place on a Wednesday was Martin McCrossan City Tours.
The price was £6 cash, to be paid as the tour ended and there was no need to book in advance.
Our guide for the hour was John.
John was very knowledgeable and clearly a proud local Derry man. He made the tour enjoyable and educational despite the weather.
Discounts at a local pub and a cafe in the city are given when you quote the tour company name.
We walked along a couple of the sides of the city wall and also through parts of the city itself.
When the tour ended I decided to walk the complete wall myself and then I walked over to the Bogside area of the city to visit the Free Derry wall and murals. Definetly would highly recommend the latter and felt safe enough doing it. I wish I would have had time & known about the Free Derry museum in advance of my trip, as I would have also done that. It closes at 4pm.
Getting a snap at the Derry Girls mural is also a must do for any fan of the show (the tour meeting point is just across the road, so you can do this while you wait).
A quick visit to the Guildhall to use the toilet, and I stumbled across some beautiful stained glass windows on the staircase.
I travelled from Belfast to Derry on the 212 bus service which cost me £15.80 as an off peak, weekday, same day return.
I did this tour in March 2023 and it rained the entire day. I would recommend sensible footwear and suitable clothing for the weather.

My wife and I visited Derry and after a disappointing morning where our booked walking tour guide blew us off, we decided to walk around the walls ourselves, and we were lucky enough to find this tour. Our tour guide John was one of the best tour guides we ever had. He was so entertaining and a proud Derry local, he totally made us fall in love with Derry and we will for sure tell others to visit this lovely city. Thank you John, your love, passion and interesting stories made our visit to Derry!!

Absolute highlight of our trip to Derry (and Ireland in general. John was a wonderful and enthusiastic ambassador for the city, totally enthralling us with the history through lively stories and charming speech. We enjoyed every second. On a dreary day it was tough to get up and out, but John made it completely worth it. Thank you!

We were fortunate to have Pat give us a tour of the city walls that included an extensive history of the city as well as discussion of modern times. Our weekday late-afternoon tour turned out to just include me and my husband, and we appreciated the ability to take the tour despite being the only two in attendance. Pat's civic pride is something I will always remember, as it was clear he not only has so much love for Derry, he also loves sharing his adoration with visitors to the city. I cannot recommend a tour by this company enough. The price was highly favorable as well and worth much more than we actually paid.

You would arrive just in time for our 4pm tour - once you get off the 212 and into the bus depot , go left to make your way to foyleside shopping centre - you will see the Debenhams which is part of the centre when you come out of the depot. Go through the centre , then up to level 4- exit there and you will see our sign “walking tours begin from here” your guide Tony will begin the tour there at 4pm.

Can we pay with a credit card or do we need cash?

Hi - yes if you purchase your tickets either in the tourist information centre beforehand you can pay by card.
Or at the end of the tour, when getting your free tea or coffee in the coffee shop, you can pay by card in there then also.

Where would be a good place to park?

Best place to park is the multi storey car park in foyleside shopping centre. It’s approximately £1.50 per hour and if you leave foyleside at level 4 beside McDonald’s that leads you out to Carlisle road where the tour begins.

Our regular tours run 7 days a week, 10am,12noon,2pm and 4pm leaving from 11 Carlisle Road , no need to book just show up. The cost is £4pp with complimentary tea or coffee also.
