Charming cafe with amazing views to the sea. We each had a large bowl of homemade soup with a warm roll & butter. Although full, we couldn't resist the home baked cakes. Absolutely yummy. The soups and baked goods are lovingly made by Margaret, one of the owners.
Everything was served on beautiful crockery by volunteer staff who were friendly and informative. Nothing was too much trouble.
The gallery displays paintings by the owner, Walter, and the small shop area has unusual crafted gifts for sale.
All proceeds from the whole enterprise are donated to worthwhile charities which is another reason to drop in and enjoy the cafe with the best cakes in St Andrews.

We’ve been coming to St Andrews for many years and don’t know how we have missed this fabulous tearoom and art gallery. The home baking is amongst the best we have ever tasted on our many travels throughout the UK and abroad, the artwork is enchanting with a strong local flavour but also featuring works from further afield.
Another huge plus is that all the profits from the tearoom, gift shop and gallery go to the wonderful Mary’s Meals charity.
We visited for the first time today- already looking forward to going back tomorrow!

Birchwood is a small café open only Friday to Monday, and with a limited menu - mainly scones, pancakes and a variety of home-made cakes, together with soup and roll around lunch time. There is usually a range of six or seven cakes to choose from, all very tasty. Within the premises is a gift shop with a variety of tasteful items, including attractively framed paintings by the co-owner. The atmosphere is welcoming and the service friendly. Not least among its virtues is the fact that all the profits go to charity, CHAS or MARY'S MEALS. So one can turn devouring cake into a virtue.

Many thanks ,Balgovia, for your positive review. Just one point the tearoom/ gallery is open from Friday to Sunday from 10 am with last orders at 4 pm. This year we are supporting Mary's Meals which feeds over 1.5 million needy children worldwide.

I visited here with my Mother-in-law and she very much enjoyed the soup that was on the menu. The coffee and cakes was a extra bonus. There is also a nice selection of top quality goods available for you to purchase.

Wonderful location, fantastic service. Little gift store had locally made items of reasonable price. Most genuine items I have seen in Scotland. Take the time to stop - it is worth it.

What a wonderful place and what wonderful work they do for charity. I visited again with my mum and dad on a wet and windy Sunday afternoon and the place was full. We had tea and cake and a chat with the owner who is lovely. These guys have raised over £80,000 for their chosen charity’s by opening up their home every weekend from Easter to serve drinks and home made cakes to all who stop by. I wish I lived closer so I could support them more and enjoy more of their delicious cakes.

This is a remarkable little tearoom with a husband and wife team who open up their home every weekend from Easter time to raise money for charity. Everything is home made and all the tearoom profits and gallery commission are donated to two children's charities, Mary's Meals and the Children's Hospice Association in Scotland. Since opening this hardworking and very friendly couple have raised thousands. If you are in the area Birchwood Cottage Gallery and Tearoom is a must do.

Recently popped in for coffee and cake. Nice selection of home baking. Lovely well maintained accommodation in beautiful location. Owners and staff were very relaxed and friendly. Enjoyed a browse in the gallery and gift shop. Commendable enterprise. Happy to recommend.

This is a small tearoom off part of the gallery. It has embroidered table covers and teas/coffees are served in china cups. A selection of scones and cakes are on offer and I can recommend the cheese scones. They are not big but they are the cheesiest I have ever tasted.
